Wasn't Texas A&M studying how to build a cargo guideway from PoH to Dallas-Fort Worth? https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/2016/09/12/167586/port-of-houston-wants-to-try-out-new-automated-cargo-transport-system/ Some folks spend their entire lives trying to 'make it' and doing what it take... a shared goal is being able to kick back and relax and enjoy. However is the creative folks are left out of the whole process, those who 'make it' have little to enjoy.

I've been out of this loop for a long time, so please indulge me a minute.... Is this light rail corridor still up in the air? It's going to happen, for sure, right, well beyond the Galleria? Is the route mostly confirmed and just getting the enviro-study? I was following the deal when the Afton Oaks roadblock/detour first started -- and that seems like forever-ago. So frustrating!

TMC Developments Vs. Uptown Dallas Development
tamtagon replied to tierwestah's topic in Texas Medical Center
TMC versus Uptown is a weird comparison, and probably started just because they were the parts of Dallas and Houston really growing, building on the relative uniqueness within all South Central US cities.... To me, the value of this boom-hood discussion is anecdotal evidence that Houston and Dallas are becoming less similar cities.- 72 replies

Galveston Pleasure Pier Updates
tamtagon replied to Coaster's topic in Galveston and the Gulf Islands
Pleasure Pier: hate the name, but the concept of a small scale amusement park on stilts over the water or a beachside carnival boardwalk is a time tested success everywhere. Nostalgia has potent drawing power for a set-up like this, but mostly people will go because it's fun. Simple and uncomplicated novelty games and rides are an excellent companion to the seashore. -
Tea Party and OccupyYourCity would dramatically advance the common goal by phasing out 401K and similar retirement/investment strategies.

The Best Little Rivalry in Texas -- Circa 1981

I think it's fascinating. Fun to read the 30 year old material. -
I'd love to see the Astros and Rangers in the same division: http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2011/10/12/houston-astros-heading-to-american.html Here's another article about the proposed move: http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2011-10-12/astros-potential-owner-disputes-reports-of-move-to-al

I think it's great you're working to become fluent in Spanish. I share the goal, but it'll be on a back burner for a while. For a long time, I've thought English and Spanish language fluency should be an public elementary school goal in Texas. Growing up in the Panhandle until 7th grade, my exposure to Spanish was limited, but living in South Texas from 7th grade until time for college gave me a decent comprehension of Spanish conversations. I lived in the Dallas area for about a fifteen years and found it very easy to communicate in Spanish as a functional illiterate when the opportunity arose. Living in Southern California, I was a little surprised to encounter a greater separation between English & Spanish speaking social circles.... It could easily have been because my CA existence primarily hugged the Orange & LA County coastlines, but I began to lose what understanding of spoken Spanish I had. Now I've lived in Georgia for 8 years, and can understand less than 25% of the Spanish I hear. I hate it. If I was going to work at becoming fluent in Spanish and considering my history, I would need disciplined and structured grammar and vocabulary lessons, lots of time watching Spanish TV channels and regular social interactions with people who grew up speaking Spanish. I'd love it you kept us up to date. haha that was a typo

Washington Avenue got a "Street Smart" page in January's Texas Monthly. The ten business highlights makes me think it's the kind of place I would like in Houston.

Mabye, around Easter, just hide the Christmas Tree, in a closet or basement (if you have one). Hide it for three days, then bring it back. Year round tree - Great Idea!
