  1. I think one of those houses is for jim and the other is for tammyfey
  2. A neighbor friend had a hookup for The Bad News Bears II filming so my mom my brother and me and the neighbors 3 daughters and their mom and the other neighbor with the hookup and her kids all skipped school and went there for the filming. It was the first time I really saw how movies work and how they can make a small crowd look big We were suppose to sit in the outfield, but the neighbor got us behind the dugout. Best part was we all got paid like 36 bucks which was big bucks for a kid back then especially to skip school! Another time as an Astro Buddy I was way up in those high seats that Astro Buddies got and behind home plate. While coming back from the concessions I stopped at the rail for a second and a pirate hit a foul ball and it came way back behind him up and damn if it did not hit my hand, but it was too hard for me to hold and the kid in the seat behind me ended up with it I remember warm Dome Foam when I got a bit older. They never seamed to card at The Dome
  3. over on the coogs scout site most feel that her husband needs to be dumped ASAP.....because he has been around too long and is from the days when nothing got done and higher education is the kind of enviornment where if you are sitting still in the same position for over 5-7 years you are probably just riding the pine and getting nothing done in most cases....or you are making huge things happen all the time and getting paid more and more to stay because you are getting it done......her husband is not getting it done in 99% of their opinions...and he needs to go and shelia jackson lee and coleman are both 100% idiots
  4. I agree 100%....and in another thread about higher ed someone just ask where is the leadership from the UH area....sadly most of them are carrying the water for PVAMU and trying to get it a med school or other programs while reigning in the growth and advancement of UH....while ignoring UH and pretending that TSU does not even exist....which it probably shouldn't exist at this point
  5. what happened is PVAMU got their panties in a bunch because they claim that is their turf!
  6. when you were born and raised in Houston like I was you believe anything is possible....and if you were born and raised in Houston it is!
  7. http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/ClosingTheGaps/UnivMeasRank.xls UNT does the least amount of external research (17 million) of all emerging research universities except UTSA that does 14 million....UNT has a VERY SMALL and very underfunded engineering program that is in shambles because of the poor administration of UNT in general.....UNT has a DO school in their pseudo system, but no other medical program to work with and UNT has zero professional programs on their main campus and none besides the DO school in Fort Worth UNT is also hamstrung by a failed system center that has failed multiple times to meet enrollment projections in south dallas and UNT is also trying to take over the UCD in dallas and is not doing well with their ideas for it....like purchasing some lofts for student residences against the recommendations of THECB....and they have admitted that the occupancy of those lofts is below expectations UNT is trying to start a law school in dallas as another pork project to aid dallas redevelopment even though most feel there is no need for another law school in Texas especially a "low cost" one that will lag at the bottom of rankings for decades....and the business school at unt is large, but lack luster and unt has an extremely small endowment for a university of its size....UNT also has UTD and UTA right down the road and UTD is a better university for research and UTA is quickly moving past them as well so unt will be last or next to last in line to ever receive funding to do major research.....and projections by the THECB also show that
  8. when Texas Pipeline was still closed, but accessible/open there were a number of people that could thrash the hell out of the place kids today do not skate the same it is all about the curb and flipping the board around not catching air ect.
  9. growing up in Houston my next door neighbor had a PhD in nuclear physics from FSU and was in the oil business his entire life....he was also an adjunct professor at UH in Chemical Engineering UH currently has graduate level PE degrees in the CE department and when talking to my neighbor he stated that CE, ME, CS and a number of other engineering degrees could just as easily get you a Petroleum job if you desired and if the bottom dropped you could always flip back to a job in your "major" where a PE degree is much more difficult to transfer into another job
  10. anyone remember the seafood place near the Astrodome that had a big crab and some other stuff out front....and I think a big neon sign (Gaido's Seafood) I just read and anyone remember Across The Street where you picked up the phone at the table to order there was a Der Wienierschnitzel on Gessner into Spring branch and my T Ball teams would go to Panjos in Town and Country some as well I went to Pipe Organ several times and still love pipe organs I remember Good Time Charlies but not the upscale restaurant....must not have been there the day it was open I remember Atchafalaya on Westheimer and had been there a few times and I liked Strawberry Patch as well....I went to Rainbow Lodge once and it was awesome...what a location went to magic pan a few times in the Galleria what was the place near strawberry patch that was all upside down with a bit of a carnival theme (Circus I read)....there was one in Austin also I liked the Longhorn Cafe and I liked Frys (restaurant not electronics) also I always thought Taco Cabana was better than Two Pesos and I had been to the origional Taco Cabana on San Pedro in San Antonio and a friend and college roommates uncles own Taco Cabana....anyone remember when there were Taco Cabanas and TacoCitas.....they had a fight over franchising and split the company for a while
  11. there was a spoons at the front of Walnut Bend on Westheimer a friend worked there and some other friends were up there eating and they looked across the street and one of the Westheimer bums was swimming nude in the pond across the street Love that place....the bread and cheese and the bananas flamb
  12. I think the GRB looks great and I like that style of architecture and I think it is a timeless style people who think something better could be built do not have a clue about what was going on in Houston at that time Houston was dead on its ass after taking the kick in the nuts that was the drop in oil and then Houston with all its homes already for sale was leading into the S&L crisis that was like a crowbar over the head there was no money to build the taj mahal....Houston had the airport and Houston still had an international presence and Houston had a dated convention center that was near useless in the modern convention scene Houston needed badly to diversify its economy and Houston needed a new space to do it with conventions to take advantage of the existing airport ect. any developer left standing after oil and still able to build anything with the S&L issues moving in was already building in Hong Kong or elsewhere and was not going to come near Houston Houston and Texas had former oil engineers and oil rig builders that needed to work.....the GRB design was something these people could build and bid for a piece of to keep the doors open.....the taj mahal would not be a building many of them could bid for a piece of it was the right building at the right time and it was that or a plain box......there were few if any other options
  13. I love it when people who have no use for religion try and toss others religion in their face I always ask if man is like every other animal what prevents me from doing what a great deal of other animals do and just killing bums and eating them or pouncing on them and humping on them to show dominance and running them out of my territory and taking their breeding partner for myself they really never have an answer because in general they are clueless.....that is why they needed to toss out their religious strawman in the first place
  14. is it a Chinese (Lacebark) Elm or a Cedar Elm......there is a difference
  15. http://bexar-tx.tamu.edu/HomeHort/F4Best/nLowWaterPlants.htm cedar elms can survive on 10-20" a year.....so they can survive in Houston just fine I figured there was some encroachment issue with the tree hence my original post now it sounds like idiots running loose that have no real clue about plants
  16. well to cut it because it is not native is just stupid....I figured they had at least half of a real reason....the tree stays!!!!!
  17. cedar elms are nice trees, but that one only looks decent cut it down and plant three more further from the pavement problems solved
  18. was Northwest mall the one that basically set the precedent in Texas and possibly the USA for a city or government entity using eminent domain to help a private developer the mall needed peoples houses for parking...I was embarrassed they some how won in Houston a few years later the mall closed
  19. the "snow" was to be plastic with what looked to be extremely small and thin mushroom shaped structures so as you skied it would be like skying on tall thin flexable little mushrooms all crammed together extremely dense
  20. genius why did me and my friends not think of that also genius as well
  21. another story a girlfriend I had in the way back was a mall survey taker or a "mall hassler" as we called her in the Galleria she was blonde and about 5-10 so she could get people to stop she would tell me and my friends when the good ones were coming up and we would go up there and take them and then usually eat at Antones the best one I think we got 5 or 10 bucks for some of the others you would get to taste food or drinks (non alcoholic) and I think a couple you got coupons not all of them gave anything of course.....most she just had to stop people and ask them 5-10 dumb questions....I think she got a bonus for the number taken so we would go just for fun sometimes she could really blab too so she was perfect for the job man I had forgotten all about that (i still remember her ) more great Houston (Galleria) memories Thanks Houston and HAIF
  22. here is a couple of 80s Galleria stories for you in about 83-84 you could wander the Galleria at any time of the day or night.....some crazy girls I knew had snuck their moms car out and came and picked me up and we would go hang out there.....you could sit in the different tiers and not be seen very easily once one of the girls named Vanessa went into the back door of one of the restaurants of the Westin and took a bowl of mustard and chunked it down on the ice.....we had to haul ass after that a few years later me and my friends would get bored and go around spraying people with a fire extinguisher full of water and the Galleria bus stop was always a winner about 9:30-10 pm the people would be lined up 20 long or more.....you would see the ones at the far end looking down with this WTF look on their face right about the time it sprayed them 80s Galleria.........pretty crazy place
