Abe Saavedra, Houston ISD's Superintendent just recently recieved a salary increase from $278,100 to $301,100. That is a major increase. HISD Board members said he deserved every penny of it for all his hard work put into the state's largest public school district. Maybe he does deserve it, but I don't think HISD is one of the better school districts in Houston's Harris County.

I really can only imagine that the only people not for this are ones who are afraid of or intimidated by technology. It should be embraced because it is an ESSENTIAL requirement for anyone who wants a job that does not involve checking someone elses tire pressure. Computers are a learning tool, just like books, the internet is full of information. The world is changing if you don't change with it you will be left in its wake.

I agree 100%. Computer and technology usage should be embraced more in schools today. This is a wonderful way of bringing it out. Technology is a learning tool.

While off for Spring Break this week I have been watching ABC 13 News at 11 am and found it interesting that Jessica Willey was sitting next to Melanie Lawson as her co-anchor. I thought Jessica Willey was a reporter. She was doing pretty good, though she did have a couple times were she messed up while reading the prompter. By the way the new MEGA Doppler is way better to look at than the Super Doppler. It is neat how they can zoom all the way down on a specific spot. ABC 13 has really been updated lately.

The only thing I think Klein ISD should do before handing out these expensive pieces of equipment is have all 6-12 grade students go through a training course to teach students how to use them and to also make students aware of all the features. Most students are computer savy and know everything about a computer. On the the other hand some students don't know. Once again I am 100% for this new tech program even though I will be graduated by the time they get to Klein Collins HS.

I seriously think the district has thought this out with further intentions than handing out expensive typewriters. This is a very innovative move and one that will pay dividends for the District. Computer literacy will become one of the fundamental eduational requirements if it isn't already. The district is trying to prepare students for what's out there in the world today and by handing out computers to students who wouldn't normally have access to them becasue of their economic situation is a great move by Klein.

I am not a big cheerleader for the District these days, while I think the Board does a pretty decent job the District has done a very poor job in managing the current bond program. In fact you want to look for waste look no further than those who are in charge of the construction of new facilities for Klein. Absolutly pathetic, but every once in a while they do something good and this computer program is a good thing.

Klein ISD actually hired a company to plan and redesign their technology plan. I don't think they just out of the blue said we are going to give over 20,000 Intermediate and High School students a laptop. This was a plan that they gave much thought ans insight to. What do you mean by "look no further than those in charge of the construction of ne facilities in Klein?" Do you not like facilities in Klein ISD?

I dont think this will be a traditional high school. They said Comprehensive what ever that means. Maybe its a school for students to catch up in credits like the neighboring Klein ISD's Vistas School. I am suprised they did'nt include any Intermediate Schools in this Bond Plan. Hopefully Community Members will vote yes for this bond unlike the previous bond that was turned down.

The Board of Trustees of the Spring Independent School District voted for a $280 million Bond at a recent meeting. Key features of the Bond include a Comprehensive High School and 6 Elementary Schools. There are a number of needed district items and Campus Improvments in the Bond also. All items are a result of student growth. Spring ISD is expected to have over 40,000 students in the next 5-10 years.

I think it's irresponsible to furnish pre-teens easily fenced equipment worth hundreds of dollars. Talk about taking candy from a baby! Every crackhead in town will be lined up outside those schools like hyenas at a water hole. Kids that age have enough trouble maintaining and keeping track of textbooks, let alone sensitive electronic equipment. Imagine the hardship replacing a computer would place on a low-income family.

On the bright side, this may change the age-old excuse "the dog ate my homework" to "the dog peed on my laptop".

Once again I think it is a great idea. I think students will take care of them and appreciate them. I am not sure but I think Klein ISD is the only district in Houston doing such a thing. I could be wrong. If it turns out to be a success, maybe other districts will implement the major technology plan.

I don't think the laptops will be stolen or pawned. The district will make students check out the computers which means if any damage or anything happens the student will be responsible because he/she checked it out for the year. I'm sure Klein ISD has a great plan.

TxDot is making plans for a newly reconstructed HW 290 over Antoine looking towards the 610 Loop Interchange. Construction is to start in the year of 2011 and will be done in phases.

The Katy, Klein, Pasadena and Pearland Independent school districts have been named as 4 of the top 100 school districts for best Music Programs in the country which include Band, Orchestra and Choir. The 2007 roster includes school districts from 31 states that are committed to quality music education programs and providing access to music education. The districts were measured across a variety of program support, curricular and programmatic criteria. 8 other Texas School Districts were choosen out of the top 100 pick.

phase 1 of La Centarra opened march 1. They had bands playing this weekend. we drove by looks very nice. i think i read in the Katy Sun that 75% of the retail is open in phase 1

Reading and writing are at all time lows, and we think we'll improve education by giving every student a laptop. Amazing.

I actually think it a newer approach to get and encourage students to do homework and major projects in a more fun, advanced, technology way. I think that it is a great program to implement. I just hate that I won't be able to be apart of it. Klein Collins and Klein High are last in the program to recieve their laptops which will be in 2012.

They cut some sort of deal with HP giving tax rebates at their new $400 million data center being built near the Vintage. If I recall correctly that included discounted or free computers for the district.

Yeah, I also think HP is a Business Partner with Klein ISD. They donate money for the Education Foundation.

The district always uses HP Computers. They will also be laptops so students can travel with them. I think they will be very nice.

Within the next 5-6 School Years each Klein ISD High School and Intermediate School student will have his/her own personal laptop. Starting off for the 2007-2008 school year will be Krimmel Intermediate School. All Teachers throughout the district will also recieve personal laptops. Unfortunately Klein Collins and Klein High are last in the district to recieve their personal laptops. All 4 High Schools should have been first then the 8 Intermediate Schools.

The Clear Creek ISD is conducting a Bond for 2007. The Bond will be $183 million. 5 new Campuses will be built and other district items such as buses, security will be included also.

How do Houston ISD and Fort Bend ISD compare to the other Houston area school districts?

What Fort Bend ISD needs id to have a Bond Program to build atleast 1-2 new High Schools, 2-4 Intermediate Schools and about 6-8 Elementary Schools to handle the growth instead of bouncing students from one school to another.

The Fort Bend Independent School District is in the process of rezoning the entire district. Many parents and community members are against some of the newly proposed plans. The district has several overcrowded schools and will be rezoning hundreds of students.

WOW, This is going to be an awsome development. I think they need more of these master-planned communities on Houston's north side like north of FM 1960.
