editor Posted December 18, 2004 Share Posted December 18, 2004 METRO BOARD APPROVES NEW ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTY OPTION FOR METRORAIL AND BUS FARE EVADERSThe METRO Board of Directors approved Dec. 16 the establishment of a $75 administrative penalty for those who fail to pay the proper METRORail or METRO Bus fares, effective Jan. 1, 2005. Authorized by the Texas Transportation Code, the fare enforcement policy change will give those who fail to pay the fare or cannot show proof of fare payment the option of paying $75 before incurring a criminal liability. Failure to pay the proper fare for transit services is a Class C Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500 and a criminal record.
