Removing financial constraints...

I've mentioned a few times in the past about my idea for a townhome that approximates a cylinder in shape by having many sides, each at an equal angle to every other side. So the footprint would look like a stop sign, just with more sides. On the roof (or 5th floor) would be placed a semi-spherical geodesic dome, also with reflective glass panels. A personal elevator would provide a direct connection from the 1st floor garage to the top level, which would serve as a living/media room. Kitchen on 4th floor, connected directly to living area by an oversized staircase (and dumbwaiter) so as to open up the space. Adjacent to the kitchen would be a study and library. The bottom three levels would each be full-floor bedroom/bathroom suites.

The site: a triangular bit of land at the corner of Avenue H and Navigation. It would overlook the center of a rail yard at a perpendicular angle, beyond which is the Houston Ship Channel, also at a perpendicular angle. Makes for a lot of perfectly lateral movement, and because there aren't any grade-level RR crossings in that area, it is without all the hornblowing typical of homes near tracks. In the other direction on the horizon is downtown Houston. From 5 floors up, one would likely observe that the elongated street grid of the 2nd Ward would converge on the horizon at downtown.

The big limitation to this idea is that it would have to be self-financed. No bank would ever lend on it.

How about you all? Any inspired ideas out there?
