Houston has 4 major sides, The West-Southwest side, The North-Northwest Side, and The Southeast side. The all have large collections of office building accept the southeast.

We've got Downtown, The Med Center, Greenway Plaza,The Galleria,Westchase,Greenspoint,and The Woodlands. Why didn't they build a large office complex for The Southeast side? There are plenty people oout there. At TheBelt and 45 would be a good spot. Good traffic flow and easy access. It would reduce traffic into town on The Gulf Freeway. It would also make The SE Side more desireable. Got movies there, all you need is an entertainment center and transit center and you're set.

How would you like to be proven wrong today?

1) Since when do we have 4 major sides? We aren't polygonal.

2) Using your rudimentary cardinal measures, you left out the Northeast side, East side, and South side.

3) NASA Parkway doesn't count?

4) Aside from those that live right on the water, the Southeast side is generally less economically affluent than those living in the Southwest, West, Northwest, and North sides. Fewer key decision makers and less rapid high-end residential growth. High insurance rates east of the Gulf Freeway in the League City and Clear Lake areas might have something to do with this.

5) When freeways were first being built, the Gulf Freeway corridor was considered by planners to be the most likely to give rise to a large collection of office buildings. Leave it to the government it get it wrong. I don't have any trust in the present-day HGAC projections, either.

By that logic, if Texas has 5 distinct areas, including Central, East, North, West, and South, only three of them are "major" because only three of them have a whole lot of people. Of course, I'd have to disagree with that, too.

You're going to have to clear up your definition of "major" with some qualifications. I for one consider the Houston Ship Channel area, as I broadly define it, to be a "major" area. It is so "major" that Houston wouldn't exist as we do today without it. We could probably get along without one of our "major" sides, however, with that population and economic activity just going somewhere else.

LOL @ Plastic.

Have you not been able to take a gander at recent real estate reports stating the rise in office construction in the SE, namely the Bay Area/League City area?

Here's a hint: you don't project (League City) to go from 40,000 residents in 1990 to roughly 80,000 residents (2010) without expecting professional practitioners to catch on that there's a need for increased office space in these locations.
