2010AC
Does anyone have more information on a proposed plan to "relocate" the Winter Street railroad tracks? I saw this link on the Buffalo Bayou Partnership website: http://www.buffalobayou.org/pdf/UP_print_proposed.pdf You can compare the existing railroad here (Scroll down and click on 'UP Railroad Realignment-Existing'): http://www.buffalobayou.org/implementation.html

UP will probably complain about 1) the cost and 2) the fact that trains will have to slow down significantly as they take the proposed curves.Considering the amount of freight traffic that this line already gets (much less the added rail traffic from the proposed commuter line) and the increasing property values in this area, it seems like this would be a good candidate for double-tracking and grade-separating, preferably by way of trenching. But UP is going to want METRO to foot the bill.
2010AC
A relocation would be great for all the townhomes going up in the area - talk about increasing your property value! I don't know much about quiet zones but maybe as folks move in they can at least get that setup?

Time to ring up your friendly neighborhood congresscritter.
