TheNiche
I'm working on a project near Lake Houston and noticed in the tax records what appears to be a grid for a township platted in a style similar to Brunsville...complete with an oval-shaped park. According to HCAD, the name of the neighborhood was Houston Groves. The oval-shaped park is labelled as Liberty Park on the plat maps. There also appear to be gridded plats just southwest of the site. Its original location seems to have just about lacked any road access, but it was bisected by the Union Pacific R.R. Its present-day location is within a half mile northeast of W. Lake Houston Parkway. The land is owned by a trucking company based in Humble. Anybody got information on this one? glelam
HCAD Facet #5866B Yes, Houston Groves was platted just south of HARMASTON according to topo map. I've overlaid the HCAD parcels with topo for reference. CAMCORP INTERESTS LTD owns most of the lots west of railroad MERRYLANDS INTERESTS LTD owns most of the lots east of railroad. gnu
Interesting... from the street names (Tuskegee, Booker, Prairie-View, etc) it seems it might have been platted as an African-American community. block book page with liberty park: Edited August 7, 2009 by gnu
