The zoning boundary of St. George Place Elementary was revealed.

The school will include St. George Place, Afton Oaks, and several other neighborhoods. Pilgrim Elementary is being relocated to a new location.

By the way, it looks like Pilgrim will be the school that serves a bunch of apartment complexes while the homes are zoned to SGP.

This info brings up a few questions I have about that area's public grade schools....maybe someone will know about all this...

What is the reason St. Georges Elementary was built in the first place?

I had heard that many Briargrove Elementary students will be relocated to the new St. George's building while their school will be renovated next year. Is this true?

It's unclear to me why Pilgrim Elementary is being relocated or shut down. If the area grade schools are so overcrowded why close one down? Any one know the true story?

I understand Will Rogers Elementary off of Richmond will be closing. I'm asuming that their students who live west of that school will transfer to St. George's. Where will the Will Rogers students that live east of Rogers transfer to?

1. St. George is being built to relieve Uptown-area schools, including Pilgrim and Briargrove. St. George is also there to promote a neighborhood in Uptown.

"I had heard that many Briargrove Elementary students will be relocated to the new St. George's building while their school will be renovated next year. Is this true?"

According to HISD's website it is.

2. Pilgrim is being relocated because it is (apparently) too full. A small part of Briargrove is being relocated to Pilgrim while parts of Pilgrim, the School @ Post Oak, and parts of Will Rogers will be relocated to St. George Place. A brand new campus for Pilgrim will open at 6300 Skyline. In other words, Pilgrim is not closing down.

*The portions of the 05-06 Briargrove zoning area which are south of Westheimer will be rezoned to Pilgrim

*The portions of the 05-06 Pilgrim zoning area which are east of Fountainview will be rezoned to St. George Place

3. Students that live east of the railroad tracks will go to Poe Elementary. There's a separate topic on the closing of Will Rogers.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have figured out how HISD is going to manage the closings and openings.

Students living in the SGP zoning area for 06-07 will enroll in the School at Post Oak while Briargrove students use the SGP building. Once Briargrove's new building has been completed, Briargrove will move out and the Post Oak school will move into SGP.
