I love San Antonio. I lived there 4 years during my undergraduate work. I am fortunate to have family living there today. Whenever I visit, I try to frequent these downtown places:

http://www.bluestarbrewing.com ; Beer & Burger Joint

http://www.guentherhouse.com ; Excellent breakfast and lunch place

http://www.sfcathedral.org ; Famous catholic church

http://www.kingwilliamassociation.org ; Tour the beautiful historic neighborhood & surrounding art galleries

Rosario's Mexican Restaurant

910 S Alamo St San Antonio TX

(near Guenther's and the King William's District)

The Westin - Riverwalk (Nice, new hotel). It is walking distance to the restaurant "Biga's on the Bank" and the Majestic theater.

http://www.biga.com ; American cuisine (almost had my wedding reception here but place was too small)

http://www.majesticempire.com ; Broadway, Symphony, etc.

Since I love architecture I really love to come up out of the Riverwalk and take in San Antonio's buildings. I have seen some site San Antonio's lack of mega buildings like Houston and Dallas as a minus. However, I like the fact that San Antonio has a unique DT area with many of its older buildings still in use as class A buildings. The Tower Life is nice but there many more buildings there too. The South Texas Building is a fav of mine along with the Milam, the Rand, and the Majestic.

I've been to all of the area missions, and the aquaduct. Very cool. So few tourists go to see the ones at the end of the trail that more often than not you're the only person there, and you can really relax and soak in the atmosphere and really really imagine what it must have been like. The missions are the best part of San Antonio.
