Children's Palace At Greenspoint Commons

It's time for another microfilm scan! This one comes from an opening ad of Children's Palace in 1989 when it did its Grand Opening at The Commons at Greenspoint, a shopping center across from the mall. The shopping center never lasted too long...Children's Palace and other major tenants (like Phar-Mor) would go bankrupt just a few years afterward, not to mention the decline of the neighborhood. By the mid to late 1990s, the Commons was converted to offices.

 

But for a brief, fleeting time, there was a real shopping center there and Children's Palace (a competitor to Toys R Us) was right there, with a Grand Opening, featuring appearances by its mascot, Peter Panda, and a guy in a RoboCop costume. Enjoy!
