Houstongaels
Houston Gaels Gaelic Athletic Club are currently recruiting for the men’s & ladies Football teams and men’s Hurling team. Houston Gaels Gaelic Athletic Club is sports and social organization that promotes Gaelic games and all things Irish in the Houston area. Established October 2011, its membership is a mix of Irish emigrants and Americans (as well as some British & Australian ex-pats) that share a passion for Gaelic games. We are currently looking for new recruits, of all ages and skill levels, to grow the club and help us compete in the 2014 Texas Championship (competing against Austin, Dallas & San Antonio). Training is currently Saturday mornings and we will be adding Wednesday evenings in the next few weeks. For those who have not heard of either Gaelic Football or Hurling, here is a brief overview: Gaelic Football Gaelic football is a fast and exciting field game unique to Ireland. It can be described as a mixture of soccer, basketball and rugby, but is a lot older. It is a field game which has developed as a distinct game similar to the progression of Australian Rules. Almost 2,600 clubs exist outside Ireland in England, Scotland, USA, Canada, Australia, parts of Asia and in most countries in Europe. Video overview of Gaelic Football: Hurling Hurling is a native Irish game and is one of the fastest field sports in the world. The Irish word for hurling is iomáint which means the art of hurling, driving or pushing forward. The most attractive qualities of the game of hurling are its speed, skill, the man-to-man tackles and the great sportsmanship shown by the players, all of whom are amateurs. Video overview of Hurling: If interested, contact the club directly using the email address below and we will provide you with info relating to training times and locations.
