VicMan
HISD is closing down several small elementary schools after the 04-05 school year.Argyle (292 students in 03-04 school year, 75 who were kindergarten and below in the 03-04 school year) was opened in a strip mall as a temporary reliever school. Since several brand new elementary schools opened in the area, Argyle was closed. The kids will go to Foerster (694, 152) next year.Brock (246, 77) was closed, and students who went to Brock will go to Crockett (388, 143).Clinton Park (which has a topic in the East End forum) (158, 56) closed. Kids are relocated to Pleasantville (390, 90).Douglass was closed (314, 95). Douglass students will go to Dodson (463, 117).Ryan (347, 92) was closed. Ryan students will go to Jefferson (681, 162) and Looscan (352, 91).In addition, other schools are slated to close.Chatham (220, 50) and Easter (208, 49) will close after the 05-06 year is over and students will go to Sanderson (365, 85).After the 05-06 year, Fairchild (401, 67) will close. Fairchild students will go to Alcott (589, 153), Bastian (591, 119), Grimes (380, 68), and Young (347, 106).Will Rogers (650, 116) is not closing due to population. Will Rogers will close after 05-06 because the tract of land it was on was the HISD Administration building, which was sold. Will Rogers students will be rezoned to Memorial (264, 73), Poe (730, 125), and the brand new St. George Place. VicMan
I forgot one more thing..Bowie (398, 117) is not closing. Bowie's kids would have attended school at a new school built near the current Berry (587, 159) Elementary School site. Since the neighborhood is improving, HISD decided to keep Bowie open. Instead Bowie will be rebuilt. As for Isaacs (403, 80), there is not enough space at the proposed reliever schools, which were Concord (210, 49) and Kashmere Gardens (499, 152).Also, Brock is slated to become an early childhood center according to an April press release. Also, it turns out that Easter and Chatham will close midway in 05-06.
