Zihuat
What is "Code" rule on horizontal stair railing in new construction? I've heard you can't do it.....can't have "ladder" effect. But I see it everywhere in magazine articles on new builds all over town, on images on HAR of new builds, etc.

After tossing around ideas of how to get around it, we called his supervisor for our area. He said that particular inspector was working to an old code, and that the code allows for horizontal railing with no greater than 4" space between rails. LegacyTree
The 4" is to prevent kids from poking their heads through and getting stuck or worse falling over the edge.
