editor
These have been around for a few years now. I believe T-Mobile was the first one to do it. I made a ghetto version of one a while ago with an old iBook connected to a cell phone via Bluetooth. In terms of reliability, you get about what you'd expect from your cell phone's data plan. So if you have dropouts and low bars where you live, this thing won't help that. It's my understanding that while download speeds are generally good, uploads can be problematic. And latency is a serious problem, so don't expect to use it for gaming. Also, many times ports are blocked so if you want to do anything other than e-mail and web you might have a problem. I upgrading from one T-Mobile plan to another that was $10 more a month fixed that for me.That said, if I lived somewhere where I only had one ISP choice and hated it, I would consider this.
