editor
You (and by "you" I mean anyone who pays taxes in Harris County) are going to have to pay Clear Channel half a million dollars because one of the new Katy Freeway ramps blocks almost, but not quite, blocks drivers' views of a billboard. Nice.http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metrop...an/6160764.html
cottonmather0
I saw that story just now, too. Had no idea there was such a thing as a "visibility easement" but it makes sense of you are leasing space for a billboard. And if there is some sort of deed restriction (or whatever it would be called) included with the title to the property, then it's up to the purchaser of the property to deal with it. Reading the story, it sounds to me that somewhere along the way the designers and the engineers just weren't aware of the restriction else it could have easily been taken into account. Stupidity on the part of TxDOT and Harris County, but I think Clear Channel was right to complain about it and is owed some sort of damages. Stuff happens. cottonmather0
Harris County declares Eminent Domain and tells Clear Channel to "EAT IT!"They still would have to compensate Clear Channel. It's kind of an important part of the Constitution.

barracuda
So we owe them $525,000, plus they get to not only keep the sign, but raise it by 10 feet so it re-uglifies the view from I-10? Ugh...
kjb434
Yep,I wonder how much it would have cost to just buy it outright as part of the project. When I-45 is rebuilt from the Beltway to downtown (north), it'll take with a lot of those billboards.
