While I don't come from a mixed background (unless you call Irish-Welsh mixed, LOL), I am in an interracial relationship, and so our kids will be in this no-man's zone of racial ambiguity. I hadn't really thought about the impact until reading this thread, probably because I'm white and we generally are blind to our own race. However, my partner (and his mom, who is mixed-race herself) is keenly aware of the effect of not fitting in to a race mold. To this day, she still has experiences where the black community doesn't accept her as theirs, and the white community says she is black.
