MaxConcrete
Last Thursday I drove along the section of beach where SH 87 formerly existed, from High Island to Sabine.I took some interesting photoshttp://www.houstonfreeways.com/modern/2005-01-14_sh87.aspx
ssullivan
Great pictures! I've often wondered what SH 87 looked like now, since it's been about 15 years since it was closed to traffic again. It was also closed much of the early 1980s and was only open for about five years between being rebuilt and being washed out by a tropical storm in late 1989. I agree that it shouldn't be rebuilt. The only advantage of rebuilding the highway is cutting travel time between Sabine Pass and Galveston; however, a relatively small number of people would benefit from the highway being rebuilt, and it surely would be washed out into the ocean again with a few years. Lowbrow
Very very interesting. I would love to do a study in how those asphalt cobbles affect the erosion in the debris fields. There is a masters or phd project in that.I may link your site to friends of mine in that field to see if there is any interest if its ok with you.Cheers.
