BlueSquirrel
I am looking for information about Georgia O'Keeffe's time in Texas. She lived and taught art in Amarillo and Canyon during the early 20th century. I've been researching this for a while now. Any additional information would be appreciated. Here are the details that I have:1912-1914 Supervisor of drawing and penmanship with the City Public School of Amarillo, TexasMagnolia Hotel on Polk Street1916-1918 West Texas State Normal College in Canyon, Texas500 20th Street, home of D. Retama
Blue Squirrel: I attended West Texas State U. in Canyon (now West Texas A&M) and recall several O'Keeffe exhibits at the Panhandle-Plains Historic Museum on the campus. I also recall driving out to Palo Duro Canyon and seeing and old house that she used or lived in that is now used to house O'Keeffe memoribilia, I believe.I'd check with the folks at the Panhandle-Plains Historic Museum to get better info. I'm relying on my feeble memory. Canyon is a nice place to visit ... as well as live.
tamtagon
I think the Amarillo Art Museum (part of Amarillo College?!?!) has a couple of her paintings, and they would probably be a good resource for time-in-the-Panhandle information as well.
