  1. So guess what a fair number of the poor are going to do? They're going to move to all of the counties surrounding Harris. The poor move to the suburbs, FURTHER FROM JOBS in patterns that are less centralized so that they CAN'T BE EFFECTIVELY SERVED BY MASS TRANSIT.

    That doesn't have to happen - there are parcels of undeveloped land in southern Houston inside the beltway and outside the loop...

  2. EDIT: I notice that, in the 2007-2008 school year, a lot of apartment complexes south of Westheimer that are zoned to Briargrove in 2006-2007 will be instead zoned to Pilgrim in 2008.

    I took this list: http://www.houstoncl.com/briargrove/briargr003.htm

    And with the help of these two maps:

    *2006-2007: http://dept.houstonisd.org/ab/schoolbounda...iargrove_ES.pdf

    *2007-2008: http://www.stgeorgeplace.com/HISD__school_zoning_2007.pdf ... I found a list of apartment complexes zoned to Briargrove that will stay, and complexes that won't.

    Keep in mind any complexes zoned to Pilgrim for 2006-2007 that are east of Fountainview will be zoned to St. George Place for 2007-2008.

    Houston ISD may be doing this to protect property values as well as relieve Briargrove...

  3. The title of the thread is the title of the piece in the Villager. Not an attempt at irony on my part.

    The term "starter" in this context is directed to the fact it is the first sold home in Carlton Woods Creekside, nothing more.

    It is Harris County, yes.

    In THAT case, it's in Tomball ISD. I'll see if TISD has a zoning program.

    EDIT: Right now this subdivision is not listed at http://www.tomballisd.net/content/page.asp...39-8ea1b7b675d1 - Keep your eyes peeled for when TISD updates!

    And when TISD updates, remember that school assignments may change later on, since TISD is growing a lot.

  4. I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but...

    Bambolino's Pizza.

    The drive through pizza places with the little patios that had the best pizza and breadsticks in town and also had the best frozen lemonade.

    mmmmmmmmmmmmm I used to frequent the Beechnut/Bissonett location.

    Bambolino's moved to 1525 Westheimer.

    By the way, I wonder why the Sweet Mesquite/Starfire Grill (3801 Bellaire Boulevard in the city of Southside Place) closed.

  5. The Conroe ISD school locator didn't tell me the zoning for the mansion, as the new addresses are not in the system yet.

    From what I can tell from the other Carlton Woods properties, the area is zoned to the following Conroe ISD schools:

    * Coulson Tough k-6 School - K-6 - http://www.conroeisd.net/schools/tough.asp

    * McCollough Junior High School - 7-8 - http://www.conroeisd.net/schools/mccjh.asp

    * The Woodlands High School - 9-12 - ( http://www.conroeisd.net/schools/twhs.asp for 10-12, http://www.conroeisd.net/schools/branchcrossing.asp for 9)

    Keep in mind that Conroe ISD is experiencing a growth spurt, so this may change as Conroe ISD builds new schools.

    (EDIT: The specific section of Carlton Woods described here is in Harris County, and is actually in Tomball ISD! - Like Conroe ISD, Tomball ISD is growing too, so school assignments will change!)

  6. Since the project is a go - I'll post the school stuff below.

    Anyway, the old and new buildings are as different as night and day - The old building is bland while the new looks so flashy. I'd like to see how this turns out.

    I've been told that Houston ISD loves condominiums; they get few kids and they get a lot of taxable money!

    Schools (Houston ISD):

    * Poe Elementary School - http://es.houstonisd.org/poees/

    * Lanier Middle School - http://ms.houstonisd.org/lanierms/

    * Lamar High School - http://hs.houstonisd.org/lamarhs/

  7. Ummmm, there is a librabry already at the corner of Richmond and Wilcrest. I don't think the people of the Lakeside area utilize that one some much that they need their own.

    Well, I mentioned that library (The Robinson-Westchase Branch) in my post already... - I think there should be another one anyway - Robinson-Westchase will get swamped by more people from nearby apartment complexes.

    But it looks like that idea's been cooked; it looks like more apartments will be in place of the old apartments...

    One could build a new library closer to Highway 6...

  8. yeah, it's a faily decent amount, but they are too far apart. i like the fact that harris county publiuc libraries has teamed up with some of the colleges (that helps).

    A bit off topic, but...

    Another area that needs a library is the Corinthian Pointe/West Orem area - all of these new planned communities are popping up - Corinthian Pointe already has an elementary school, YMCA, and retail. Why not throw in a library?

  9. The apartment complex located at the southeast corner of Briar Forest and Kirkwood (close by) that has been there for years is boarded up and apparently soon to be demolished. Don't know what's going in there, but it should upgrade the neighborhood. There are lots of really nice homes nearby. Maybe this will start a trend.

    I have an idea - A new library!

    See this map: http://hpl.lib.tx.us/branches/index.html

    There is space between the Kendall and Westchase branches. The city can build a new branch in the Briar Forest area.

  10. The Katy area is more or less served by the Katy Independent School District, which includes the city of Katy, small portions of the city of Houston, and several unincorporated areas such as Cinco Ranch.

    A few areas with Katy addresses are in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.

  11. The final name appears to be Camden City Centre

    It is at 301 Saint Joseph's Parkway at 77002.

    The zoned Houston ISD schools are:

    * Gregory-Lincoln Education Center (grades Kindergarten through 8) - http://ms.houstonisd.org/gregorylincoln/

    * Reagan High School - http://hs.houstonisd.org/reaganhs/

  13. Houston and Harris County need to have better planning in as far as Apartments go. There are too many, too spread out, causing too much trouble. For what its worth, these landowners/slumlords need to be paying an additional tax, as their impact on the community (usually negative) far exceeds what they contribute.

    I agree - that is what brought Sharpstown down.

    I am glad the inner West side (as in around Rice University) is limiting the number of those apartments... Again, if a property is demo'ed, legit families need to be placed in wholesome environments - while criminals need to be sent to prison.

  14. If what would have been Brunsville is in Houston ISD, Clinton Park no longer serves it...

    That school closed in spring 2005 - See http://www.khou.com/news/local/stories/kho...y.3f4d8ba4.html

    What would have been Brunsville is served by:

    * Pleasantville Elementary School - http://es.houstonisd.org/pleasantvillees/

    * Holland Middle School - http://ms.houstonisd.org/hollandms/

    * Furr High School - http://hs.houstonisd.org/furrhs/
