  1. His reaction to a burglary is to move to a city with a higher crime rate?

    Odd.

Well, 1. What part of Dallas is he moving to.

    2. Why doesn't he use other methods of catching burglars such as security cameras, dogs, locking the house, etc?

  2. I had to call BS when I saw this article about Woodlands gaining a status as a city and noticed comments of people going "OH NOEZ! If Yuuston annexes U we are finisssheed!!!111!!!LOL!" http://www.chron.com/disp/commnts.mpl/head...ckCurrentPage=0

I reminded the posters that plenty of unincorporated areas go ghetto. Look at the Westfield HS attendance zone of Spring ISD (I should have included DeKaney as well, but, oh well).

The example of the Westfield area going down that I used: the death of the kid at the apartment.

  3. It wasn't deleted by one person.

    Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Art...tion/T.H.E._Fox

Other people "voted" on the issue, and the consensus was to delete.

    * EDIT: Actually, there was no consensus, BUT the closing admin decided to delete anyway - This can be used to your advantage, editor, in a deletion review.

Look at the criteria stated in the AFD. If you can satisfy the criteria and appeal it on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review - You may be able to get it back

Many of the votes were "keep," but brenneman looked at it and deleted it...

"The result was delete. Without sourcing, the basic foundation for article writing does not exist. - brenneman 01:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)"

So, if you can find sources that satisfy his demands, you can appeal the deletion.

  4. "We're running out. And we don't have a plan."

My plan: invest in the education of our young people so as to ensure that they understand simple notions of supply and demand.

High school economics classes are supposed to do this.

In fact, that is one of the first lessons of economics. If the demand is high and the supply is low, the prices are high. If the demand is low and the supply is high, prices are low.

  5. If you have to build a commuter rail through the Heights this could be one of the best locations because it's so close to I-10 anyways, that is allready a noisy neighborhood. I agree with Vicman, lets find a way to do both the rail and the bike trails.

Be careful what you wish for guys, you just might get it all.

Well, if the idea is practical, let's tell METRO :)

  6. Ah - my elementary school had lockers (a few classes didn't have them, and I teased an older girl in a 4th grade class with no lockers)

I remembered missing a bus in the 4th grade because I struggled carrying a binder and two textbooks (yeah, I was really weak back then) from the classroom in the T-buildings to the locker in the main building - Thankfully another bus driver agreed to take me to the nearby middle school, where I transferred to my actual bus (My bus went from River Oaks to Lanier before continuing onward; my sister and I shared the bus route).

  7. Why did people hurt Youssif?

Anyway, someone should allow for his family to move to the United States. Youssif needs a safe community to live in. Someone can build a house for his family in Pearland, Katy, Klein, The Woodlands, southern Houston, South Belt, or elsewhere - or someone can allow for the family to buy a house in a safe neighborhood.

  8. Why not integrate the bike path with the station?

If anything, having bike racks at a station would be a wonderful idea.

A Heights station would be great - Although for convenience for NW Houston commuters, not ALL trains would stop at the Heights.

  9. there was a street lady regularly on woodridge with her sign. and one day i saw her get out of a honda accord she parked at denny's there and walked to the intersection. now THAT is a scamstress!

I have an idea for a Youtube video.

    * First get shots of the lady panhandling

    * Several minutes later, show a clip of the same woman driving a car

Perhaps a message at the end could say "Some beggars have more money than you think!" or something to that effect!

By the way, Lisa Gray had a column in the Houston Chronicle stating that the city did not try enough measures to take the "35%" (mentally ill) homeless off of city streets.

  10. Vic the problem starts at the top. He's not enforcing many ordinances because he doesn't want to offend anyone so he can move on to bigger things. there was an incident that happened this week where a letter was sent out saying negative things about him concerning the property the city sold on w dallas to the mental facility. evidently the sale wasn't as benevolent sounding as the mayor makes it out to be.

So, the solution is to write a letter to him.

What specific actions are available to the mayor that can help reduce the presence of homelessness?

  11. Musicman: Should I find out who is this "Search?" How should we approach this?

    * Ask organizations that support beggars to stop feeding them?

    * Have Downtown businesses sue businesses that support beggars?

    * Reward snitch money for reporting violations of homeless ordinances?

    * Set cameras to get faces of homeless

    * Have men videotape homeless urinating or defecating, then call police and have the evidence on hand

Businesses need to get aggressive in order to fight homeless people.

  12. As an aside, Toggle3 can say/post whatever he wants to say in my book. It is what makes this country great. What also makes this country great is that I can feel free to call him on the floor for being a racist tool.

That's not necessarily true. Toggle may post whatever he wants as long as his posts do not violate HAIF's rules.

  13. "The area is pretty much built out so growth now is stagnant, older families have paid off homes and haven't moved out and the younger families who have Willowridge ties are now in Teal Run and all points South. In all reality, taxpayers got jipped as Willowridge's enrollment has dropped which basically means Marshall was not needed.

    "

FBISD rezoned a chunk of land south of FB Houston to Willowridge (From Hightower's zone). As of writing the chunk is undeveloped.

    "

Vic...what would an HISD move accomplish? Nothing.....They can't support their own now so you want to add another 5,000 or so students to a cash strapped district? FBISD ain't dumb, Ridge leaves and has success next thing you know they have egg on their face. Keeping them tucked away in a corner is their philosophy."

HISD has plenty of money - It has a low tax rate due to the businesses and condo towers in the center city. The financial issues with HISD mainly are the high number of administrators and urban politics. The challenge is to convince FB Houston residents to support a rezone and to get HISD to accept the land.

If the people of Fort Bend Houston convince HISD to take them in, I am not sure if there is much FBISD can do.

"Trae....not mistaken, you live in Katy in an area that was a fram 4 years ago so I doubt you'll ever understand my point of view as your area is far from reality."

Trae lives in the Katy area, but he's from Alief.

  14. Unfortunately, they don't show up to athletic events to support their students......but when half the team isn't zoned there anyway and most of the athletes have ties to Yates or Worthing I can understand...

I wonder if the alumni association is more concerned with other aspects of the school, such as physical maintenance of the school building and/or fund-raising.

Also, this HoustonInTown article shows that some parents of former Lamar kids, such as Fran Callahan, pour money into the school: http://www.intownmag.com/archives/05-08-august-2005/030.htm

You should suggest to the alumni association that it should send some representatives to sports games. :)

  15. BTW and Yates are the only schools in HISD where alumni still care and show up to events.....as for your experience, I've never head that from some my college classmates about thugs and stuff..hell...some of the "best-dressed" and "pretty-boy" types I knew in college were from Booker T!

Lamar HS has a big alumni association as well - It has its own website and it is raising 3 million dollars for renovations to the school (As of July 1 the association received 64% of the money it is raising) http://www.lamarhsalumni.com/capital_campaign.htm

  16. I didn't have to ask that question - He knew that the attackers were angry African-American men hitting a White man because of his race - My teacher disapproved of the actions of the men.

I never asked him if he felt the riots were justified, but I figured he would say no too - The attack was an outgrowth of the riots.

I saw it all unfold as well when it happened Vic. Did you ask your AP Euro teacher if he thought it was a hate crime , or just some random people trying to execute another person ? Does your Euro teacher feel that the riots were justified UNTIL they started beating Denny? These perpetrators weren't ANY kind of militant group, unless you consider gangbangers militants now.

Think about this for a second. Ask yourself WHY the people were rioting, and do you think they would have pulled someone of their similar color from his truck to give them a Watts beatdown ?

  17. The U.S. airlines spread themselves too thin. Passenger loads are back to pre-9/11 levels. Instead of being good regional airlines, they're all trying to be crappy global airlines.

This trend won't go away. The USA airlines make a lot of money on international flights, and the USA airlines are aiming to expand such services. Delta began services to Dubai and several parts of Africa. Continental and American began nonstop services to India. Continental plans to get a flight into Lagos, Nigeria as well.

Some people cite US Airways (at least before the merger with America West) as an example of a poorly organized domestic operation - US Airways is a collection of regional airlines that merged.

Also, I notice that a lot of regional operations are now contracted with other airlines.
