I think it was called Dixie's Roadhouse not Dexters. Mcdonalds used to be located on Echo Lb and I-10 which is now a Chase bank. Also at I-10 and the beltway was the Igloo plant..remember the water tower?

I have learned they will be tearing down 2 of the buildings in September. Including my old place at 242 Portland St. Absolutely sucks that beautiful historic buildings are thought of as wasted space. Very dissapointing.

Thanks for the link to the article. Now I know which apartment complex the OP was asking about in the first post. The original Gramercy Place Apartments (located at 4801 Montrose @ Banks St.) were very charming and I always admired them as I passed by on Montrose.
I managed to take some photos of some of the rear units back when the complex was being demolished, but sadly I never got a photo of the front of the aparments (as you viewed them from Montrose).
I have a ton of pictures from before they were demolished but would love to see yours is there anyway you can post them? Thanks!!

Does anyone know anything about an old restaurant by the name of "120 Portland "?
The place is boarded up now but possibly once was neat place to eat.
Its located at the corner of Portland St and Milam.

Thanks Laura! My girlfriend is the property manager over there. I have tried to get a better idea of what the property looked like years ago on www.historicariels.com but its quite hard to tell. Look forward to talking soon!

Does anyone have any pictures or stories of the amazing apartments? I have extremely limited information on these buildings and would love to know more.
Also does anyone have info on the restaurant that was located on Portland St.
Why could these apartments never get a historical landmark?
Cant wait to hear from all of you!

Has anyone heard the myth of buried treasure along Cypress Creek? I could have sworn somebody told me about this dating back to the 1830's.

Address is 10626 Burgoyne..in Walnut Bend..77042. The furthest back I could find was 8/1971 and Butler was the people's last name.
I would really like to know how to see an original exterior picture of the house. Thanks for the help!

How would I find out who all lived in the house I grew up in? It was built in 1960 and we moved in in 1982. HCAD only has records back to 1988. Where should I look for this info? Thanks!!

Is there any other websites that are similar to HAIF ot just for Housto but other cities in TX? I came across a similar site for Dallas but not as detailed as HAIF.

So I drove down Richmond the other day and was blown away by how run-down everything looks. What I want to know is when and how this stretch between Hillcroft and Chimney Rock got so popular then sank so fast. I remember going down there after the Rockets won the championship and not being able to move. It was fun and everybody seemed to be cool with eachother.
So how did it go south so quick? Location not being an issue, do you think it will ever be back to its glory days? Sadly when I turned 21 I would go down that way and grab a drink at various bars. It was fun and everyone seemed very much down to earth. Even better I used to go into King Fish Market every now and again for a quick bite..funny because Chris King was a toatal jerk. He was on something back then and had adult braces.
Good times!!

I have spent the past week in Dallas and cant quite figure out why so many of the neighborhoods have alleys and why we dont in Houston. I am not complaining but didnt know if there was a reason for this.
BTW I think we still kick ASS on about every level!

Does anybody know about the apartment complex between Old Farm Rd. and Fondren? I have heard stories that it was quite the "swinging" place to be back in the 70's.
This place is right behind Vargo's and I heard that it was very wild...anybody know any truth to this?

My Father in law who actually was the Mayor of Tomball during the mid 70's to early 80's has told me stories about Treeline.
His favorite is that he was a caddy in Jr High and these big wig oil guys played 18 holes in the freezing cold. They actually drove their station wagon on the course and played.
Well my Father in Law would lie face down in the back of the wagon pulling their bags. Apparently these oil guys would take a bottle of Whiskey with them and take a pull of the bottle with every shot they took.
Sounds funny I know but back in the 50's these guys could do whatever they wanted. He told me they always tipped well and could never play golf worth a damn but he sure had fun!

This may show my age but I have no clue what Globe is or was. I can remember there was a Dennys in that same area. It was closed by the mid 80's I think.

I have always wondered if all the old Skylane Apartments were once owned by the same people. Also, were they ever nice? I grew up near the complex at Beltway 8 and I-10. They are really scary...why are they still there. Seems to me that they would attract people that were toatal scum.
Also what was in front of that complex. I seem to remember Town&Country Bazzar. The building stood empty for years. I think its right on the fault line.
Maybe thats why Igloo moved out west.
Any thoughts?

I was curious what the bar scene was like back in the 70's around Houston. Was the ever a place similar to Studio 54 in town?
Also where there ever "singles bars"? What were they like and if anyone has any funny or interesting stories I would love to hear them!
