I took a few pics of Phase III this morning from the second story of my building in Post Midtown looking west. On the far side you can see concrete is poured and it's starting to rise. Not the greatest pics in the world...

This looks to be back on the drawing board.
"A 2008 proposal to bring another major convention center hotel to downtown is back on the drawing board.
The details of the plan are a little different this time around, but the goal is the same: at least 1,000 rooms in a high-rise hotel on a parcel that mirrors the Hilton Americas across Discovery Green park.
Houston First, an independent corporation that runs the George R. Brown Convention Center, Hilton Americas and other city-owned buildings, has hired Georgia-based Strategic Advisory Group to help craft a formal request to developers who design, build, own and finance the new hotel.
The hotel would be part of a larger mixed-use development that could include commercial, residential and retail space."

Glad to see that this project is on pace to start soon. I'm looking forward to this development!

Interesting! I love the fact that even that small area will be upgraded to something good. Too bad Post couldn't buy the block at Bagby and Gray before CVS did....

I hope something gets done there. That part of Midtown needs a major renovation.

Yea there's nothing sketchy about walking around downtown at night. You might pass by a few bums here and there but it's not like they are going to do anything to you. They greyhound bus station on main st in north Midtown is probably the place I wouldn't want to venture around at night though.

Walked by earlier and saw a cement truck pulling onto the site. I wish I could see what the design blueprint looks like with that old house right there lol.

I came across a more in-depth document of what they are proposing. Interesting.

As I understand it, they have two projects in the works. I'm interested to see how the one on the superblock turns out.

We are going to the VIP party tonight.....
My sister went as well, how was it? It looked like alot of folks were there when I walked by. I'm gonna go tonight.

Blackfinn American Grille is now open. I'll have to check it out sometime soon.

Just came across this on the chron and haven't seen it posted here.

I signed up on their Facebook page and got 2 tickets to their "VIP First Look Party" on November 10th. Their patio looks awesome and will definitely add more action to the area. I wonder when the place across the street will be complete.

Do we have reason to think construction is about 2 years away?
"Wallace Garcia Wilson designed the project, which won't break ground until the fall of 2013."

Yea that live band was loud. I live across the street and could barely hear my tv lol. They had a Houston Fashion Week thing going on there this weekend and had a runway with models walking across on the patio while the band played. It was a pretty popular event with a bunch of people watching from the street. This restaraunt is definitley adding more action to the area, which is great.

Good lord, Noel. Keep your car cold enough? You've got quite a bit of fogging going on.
lol I didn't take the pics. I found them on their facebook page and just posted them here.

Celtic Gardens (Pub Fiction 2.0) is opening soon and these are some pics they posted on their Facebook page. I like the mural they painted on the side of Howl at the Moon of the Jameson distillery in Ireland.

Good news. According to their Facebook page, they are 100% leased on phase 1.

Here's a picture of the Scout Square parking garage from the facebook page of the restaraunt going in at the bottom of it.

Looks like Habanero's wasn't too popular.
