  1. Agreed. I looked at a unit in Townhouse Manor last year and could hear the traffic inside.

Granted it was a Sunday afternoon and not rush hour, but I didn't think the traffic noise was that bad at either house today. Hopefully someone appreciates what these houses have to offer and buys one of them.

  2. They were supposed to be released 10 days ago, but our post office doesn't have any still. Someone should post if they actually get any in Houston.

The post office at 4020 Broadway near Glenbrook has them. I bought a sheet today. I also gave an impromptu lesson about Eames to the postal worker when he asked "what's the story with these stamps?"

  3. I live in a smaller version of this house just outside of Glenbrook (literally one street away). There are also 2 more like it that I know of - one on Tappenbeck off Bunker Hill built in 1955 and the other on Magdalene off Taylorcrest built in 1957. I remember seeing pics online of 12943 Memorial when it was on the market a few years back. It was cool to see my house in another light - mine is definitely the more economical adaptation of this floor plan. I found a pic from Memorial I saved the last time it was listed - you can get an idea of what's been done:

  4. I have a low pitched 1 story built in 1965 and all main rooms in the house have vaulted beamed ceilings. I noticed the first summer the house didn't stay cool in certain rooms. My office was the worst: a bedroom sandwiched between a bath and bedroom on each side. The front and back bedrooms stay cool thanks to the trees shading the roof but the office receives full sun most of the day and would heat up quickly. It would heat up to 85 degrees on really hot days. Usually by 10am the office temperature would be at 80, peaking at 83-85 between noon and 6pm, and finally cooling down to 77-78 after 9-10pm. I work out of the house and even thought about moving rooms to stay cool. After some research on the net, I found an insulating and heat-reflecting paint additive. It sounded promising so I gave it a try. I painted 2 coats on the ceiling as directed and was surprised by the results. Before I painted, the ceiling was very warm to the touch - now it is cool. The temp does not go above 80 in the room now (with my thermostat set at 78) and only reaches that degree between 3pm - 5pm. The room cools down quickly to 77 after 6pm and sometimes at night it will go down as low as 73 (again with the thermostat set @ 78). I went ahead and bought more to do the rest of the house - I just haven't had the time to do it. I figured its an inexpensive fix for now and helps my work demeanor/performance too. Just an idea for you to think about.

  5. I drove by last night in a state of shock. What is going on with this street? This is the 3rd house on the block that has been severely altered recently. I looked at and considered the cool green mod when it was for sale last year - now I'm glad I decided against it. I wouldn't have been able to look at this devastation on a daily basis...not without some good pills.

  6. One of the switchplates is missing. So I'd love to find a replacement for that. However for now my crafty mother fashioned something out of balsawood to fit the unusual shape of the switch. Which is better than a nice brassy replacement.

I have 3 of the switchplates you are talking about - picked them up at a thrift store recently. Two of them are for 3 switches and the other is for 2. They are still packaged and have never been used - however, one package is missing the screws. They even have the gold card inserts. I had never seen these before and that is what intrigued me to buy them. They are yours if you want them.
