  1. 1. The Angelika in Bayou Place will close leaving only one Art House left. 2. More Poser bars will open on Washington Avenue. 3. The HLSR will have a bland line up of pop tarts and geezers. 4. Chicago Pizza in the Heights will close and we will lose the best deep dish pizza in town. Star Pizza sucks. 5. Local TV stations will raid strip clubs to find on air talent. 6. More weeds will grow where Astroworld once stood
  2. I stopped by the Border's at Westheimer and Gessner today and they are shutting up shop. DVDs are 20% off and Hardcover new releases are 20 to 30% off the cover price. The coffee bar is already dry, so if you like to browse with a cup of mud...well, BYOC.
  3. The Hollywood Video in Montrose is now closed. The beautiful Marquee facing Westheimer is stripped and the last great video store in Houston is gone. Thank the Lord we still have AV Plus on Waugh. I love going to a video store and browsing the aisles. Netflix is cold and Redbox is like getting a soda from a vending machine. This city sucks. We lost two great renovations in a few months (the Alabama Bookstop and now Hollywood Video). With the recent loss of Mary's, Montrose is on the verge of falling to the yuppies. These losers have already killed Washington Avenue.
  4. Who recalls the old theater in The Heights called Stude Theater located at 730 East 11th Street?
  5. I was just at Warehouse Live last Friday to see the Swell Season (the couple from the film "Once). There was no one smoking inside the venue. However, be prepared to stand. The only seating is at a bar, which is always crowded. Parking is $10 in lots around the venue.
  6. If you want to see pics of vintage toy/electronic stores check out www.plaidstallions.com They have pics of a store called The Game Player. I am pretty sure this store was located in the San Jacinto Mall in Baytown. I used to go to this mall frequently as a child and I remember you could actually play a game before buying. They also had Dungeons and Dragons merchandise, if you were so inclined. http://www.plaidstallions.com/toystores/gp1.jpg http://www.plaidstallions.com/toystores/gp2.jpg http://www.plaidstallions.com/toystores/gp3.jpg
  7. I found a couple of pics at a very interesting site called plaidstallions.com Anyway, they have pics of a store called "The Game Peddler". By the Atari and Intellivision systems in the last pic, I am guessing this is from 1979-1980. The pics are stated to come from a Houston mall. Does anyone know which mall or remember the store below? Thanks a bunch!
  8. There is a huge, vacant piece of land accross from Reliant Stadium that would be perfect for a park such as this. There is also a walkway crossing the freeway to link the two areas.
  9. The Arcade Expo is cookin' this very weekend. Go and support those good timin' folks! http://www.arcadecenter.com/
  10. I heard a rumor there was once a movie theatre in the Post Oak Pavillions where Americas is located. Is this true? If so, does anyone have any pics or memories. If there was an earlier post regarding this theatre, I apologize.
  11. The Kainos Partners Holding Company, which were to fund the expansion of Dunkin in Houston, filed for bankruptcy. In my opinion, Dunkin is king and ruled Bellaire! Long live the Vanilla Kreme!
  12. I found this pic of the General Cinemas Greenspoint 5 circa Christmas 1977. I think this theatre closed around 1996.
