This is what the anti-rail crowd has been praying for. Maybe now we can get a more comprehensive and timely bus system.

For mixed use: sanitary sewer improvements, transportation improvements, and site drainage/retention.
I'd guess this will sit vacant for many years to come. Perhaps an industrial office park at some point.

They're town-homes and it looks like the plan was just extruded up without any concern for the sectional scale qualities of one unit to another. Nice location thou.

A fair bit of thought and effort was expended on this wet dream...and it seems a whole lot more achievable than some of the stuff that the Midtown and Downtown Management Districts have come up with over the years.
Not a bad stab at community programming. I take issue with the use of signage to create "brand identity." It just sounds like a flimsy premise. Precedents at a similar neighborhood scale would be a useful analytical tool. However that could have been skillfully omitted b/c my gut instinct is that if you close a street for pedestrian use it becomes a no man's land after dark. I'm can't put my finger on it but I believe this was done in Philadelphia and that was the resultant after the banning of autos from the street.
Also you might want to contact Susan Rodgers at UH, she's an expert at this type of programming and probably has an "in."

What is architecture, in practice, but an attempt by a developer to enhance the marketability of an otherwise commoditized asset?

What incentive was there in the first place to build tall as opposed to building outward?
If other cities are planning these tall buildings then when will they start building them? Please provide construction photos.
By what criteria is Houston's status defined?

Why? Whats wrong with fish for lunch?
Brand linguistics and perceived connotations. There's nothing wrong with "fish" for lunch, but compare it to some testable market research and you'll find words like "seafood" are more likely to generate positive connotations.
Words matter.

I think there was a ford dealership on this site before.
The old Central Ford lot?

Yep, all officially off the map - I guess the franchise just couldn't hack it here.

I think the new restaurant is this one (from B4-U-EAT:):
The Fish Place
5887 Westheimer Rd (Coming Soon)
Houston TX 77057
The Sugar Land location also changed over to the Fish Place.
"Fish" seems like the wrong word for a seafood lunch spot, imo.

I think some contributory significance should be given to Robertson Stadium considering it was a WPA project.

We finally got some shot blocking.
Our defense this year would make Jeff Van Gundy cringe with horror.

There's also a place on Fairview that's orange called Latina Cubana Cafe that I haven't tried.
The baked chicken is excellent there.
There is also a small Puerto Rican restaurant down the street that's pretty good (if still there), east of Montrose on the northside of Fairview.
The downtown El Rey is a good lunch spot, which probably explains to stinginess of evening hours.
