Is that a bad thing? lol
Yes, when it benefits those who don't need the help. Spend the money on low-income housing so less-wealthy people can enjoy the benefits. How many of these subsidized projects are even remotely affordable to the bulk of Houstonians?
- SkyHouse Houston
- Block 334
- SkyHouse Main
- The Star
- Market Square Tower
- Aris Market Square

Drop a ton of cash (tax incentives) on another neighborhood and it would likely be alive, too.

Hopefully they jackhammer your house (looking at you, H-Town Man) and build a parking lot on the land.

Ben Crenshaw was a helluva golfer, but I don't think he ever ran for office

I bet if you made Chevron a good offer on the property, they would part with it.

I don't understand, I have a car, and I like theatre. Pretty much everyone I know in Houston who likes theatre also has a car.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. The car remark was in response to the comment about public transit.

Seems as though you have no use for life.
No, I am just mature enough to realize that people can like different things. Perhaps one day you will get to that point.

No offense, but you kinda sound like you do.
Just because I have zero use for downtown doesn't mean others can't love it. Y'all do y'all.

Seriously? There are sports, nice parks, great restaurants and bars, theater, easy public transit
I have no interest in billionaires getting richer through subsidized stadiums, thus no interest in the sports that are offered downtown. I have plenty of nice parks and restaurants in my area. I don't drink, so not interested at all in bars. Theater? No thanks, not an interest for me. I have a car.
I don't begrudge anyone liking what they like. There's somewhere for everyone.

Unless I get a jury summons, there's no reason at all to go anywhere near downtown. Nothing of any interest to me there.

"Berlin has no history" LOL
Look at a map of buildings destroyed in WWII and tell me where Berlin still has true historic structures. I'll wait.

So glad people are not quoting Ross. Ignore is a great feature. He's been yelling about people holding opinions on an architectural forum for years. Troll.
I don't have you on ignore, as I should, because it's kind of childish, especially when you bring it up. You are very sensitive about certain things, and it shows in your reactive posts. Lighten up, Francis.

And you know what they say about opinions...

Need to check those spectacles, sir/ma'am. That's a very plain and ugly building.

Its funny because you’re doing the same thing that you say that I’m doing; passionately espousing your ideas. You say, “An "awesome core" would entail building affordable housing for thousands of workers who are priced out of the area right now.” You see that’s you’re under developed opinion. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Houston is getting denser and the CBD is getting denser. More people are moving into the city and that’s a trend that will stay put for a very long time. Ask any major developer in any city and they’ll probably tell you the same. If you can’t see that then you’re just as thick as Ross and have no business on this page and that’s a fact jack!
Oooooooooo, burnnnnnnnn.....
Alrighty, ace, we'll see how it turns out.

No point in trying to explain anything to you. If you can't see why having an "awesome core" and making the city more suitable for visitors and residents alike is a good thing then you're just delusional.I pity you.Have fun at applebees.
You're not explaining anything to anyone. You're passionately espousing your ideas.
An "awesome core" would entail building affordable housing for thousands of workers who are priced out of the area right now. There aren't many people besides 1%ers who can afford to live downtown as is, so I have no interest in catering to that crowd. The CBD concept is a dinosaur that needs to fade away.

Another residential tower perched on a hulking parking vault. Ugh! ☹️
Where else are they going to park? At least this design keeps them above the flood waters.

Unfortunately it feels like they’re not losing, even when they should be. TAHSR’s claims are wildly overstated and grossly untrue but all you have to do is spread fear and propaganda and you can convince anyone
I think you meant to say that the high-speed rail folks have made wildly overstated claims that are grossly untrue. Their numbers were pulled out of something rather less savory than a hat.
I get that some of you want a magic train. Problem is, the money is just not there to either build it, or keep it operating, without huge public subsidies.

Real easy to be a naysayer. You have any evidence for why this is so, right now?
There is a serious fight against this project in the countryside, and the backers of the HSR don't have the funding to make it happen yet.

PR BS. That fantasy train isn't getting off the ground any time soon.
