Also, people who shop at the Galleria so that other people can see them shopping.  That's how Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus manage to stay open.  The ladies who lunch want to be seen by the other ladies who lunch.  They don't care what happens in the rest of the mall.

That might be true about Neiman Marcus, which does feel pretty elitist (not unexpected for a Dallas company after all)... but I don't think that's the case with Nordstrom. It's an awesome store with great customer service and it doesn't really feel obnoxious at all. If anything I'd throw Saks in that former camp before Nordstrom.

  2. Does anyone know what's going on here? Not sure if this is the best thread for this, but there was a replat notice for the March 31 meeting for the old Goode Co Seafood building that was demolished and the building where the new location is next door to create one large plat (I believe, I'm not sure how to find it on the planning commission website). In that building the Vitamin Shoppe already closed and was emptied out, Kolache Factory closed today, and Smoothie King is closing next week. It seems pretty fast to close and demolish it after Goode Co Seafood relocated over there, but I wonder if a larger development is planned?

Are we sure this is Blue Nile the Ethiopian restaurant and not Blue Nile the diamond company? Maybe I missed it and it said restaurant somewhere, but the jewelry store would seem to make a lot more sense for the Galleria.

Signage is up for the buildout for Blue Nile the jewelry store (not the Ethiopian restaurant). It's going in one of the corner spots by the main elevators in the center of the Galleria; I believe it was the old Dior space before they moved to River Oaks District, but I'm not positive.

It's inside a Houston limited purpose annexation area, and will collect Houston sales tax. I have also seen HPD stopping people out there.

I meant more culturally/neighborhood-speaking I guess, since he was saying he wasn't familiar with the area. Either way, cool to have a Shake Shack coming.

Whole Foods was the one on Post Oak, the clubhouse and "apartments" appear to be at the new Holiday Inn/Staybridge Suites off 610 between Westheimer and San Felipe (kind of random imo).

Yup, definitely the Post Oak/San Felipe location. They showed external shots with the surface level parking, and at the end of that segment you could see the new Aspire apartment tower in the background

Can anyone confirm if the fitness center be an Equinox gym?

Per this Chronicle article: "DC Partners declined to name the retail tenants, but state permitting documents suggest New Evolution Fitness, a company started by two former 24 Hour Fitness executives, is planning to open in the project. Permits describe a roughly 37,000-square-foot fitness center opening in spring 2022."

  7. I went once 3 or 4 years ago when I used to commute to and from Galveston. It was pretty decent, even if it felt like it was in the middle of nowhere (though admittedly I'm not very familiar with the Pearland area). I'm a bit surprised that smaller breweries like this one, Wicked Boxer (Cypress), Fortress (Spring), etc.. have made it through the pandemic thus far. I guess once the initial investment in all the equipment is made, the overhead is relatively low in these presumably very low-rent suburban office/industrial parks. The more breweries the better though!

It looks like the 9753 nine-story office building is slated to start back up the first of quarter 2022.  Changes on the exterior, so permits were required.

Awesome! It's been weird seeing it just sitting there with the first above ground floor poured and rebar sticking out for months.

Also they were putting up signage on the top of the east face of the residential high-rise this morning, looked pretty good but they only had "McK" when I drove by so we'll see how the whole thing looks.

And who could forget the Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston... (from Wikipedia)

    Houston_CART_circuit_transparent.png

Sounded like a bunch of angry bees during practice the week or so before.

Maybe I'm just used to the much more intricate F1 layouts, but that seems like a pretty lame race track (as far as turns go; a Downtown Houston race would be awesome to watch for the location/scenery).

I understand the sentiment, but I would debate whether this is an "Historic Building". It was an old, decrepit warehouse, that was barely standing when I sold it 25 years ago. It would have cost a fortune to rehab, far more than it was worth, and far more than it would have been worth. It was a warehouse, not an architectural standout.

It seems like there is a full-on meltdown here any time something old is torn down. For some reason people seem to think "old" automatically equals "historic". I can't speak on this specific building since I'm not too familiar with the area, but it certainly didn't look worth saving from an architectural standpoint based on the photos. Glad to see some reason from someone who actually knows the area and the building in particular.

This project is now on hold.  The developer and GC couldnt come to terms on pricing.

Damn. Was really looking forward to having a Rosewood, would have probably been one of the top 3-5 nicest hotels in Houston. It was so exciting to think we would have Rosewood, Kimpton, and Thompson all entering the market in a short span, but now Thompson is the only one remaining.

The other tower crane came down today, but there continues to be minimal apparent progress despite continued work. Still lacking most windows except for the lowest floors of the tower.

They are FINALLY up to the top two floors with the windows. This is taking forever, it seemed to be rising quickly at first but now it reminds me of Block 334 downtown that took like 4 years to finish for a midrise apartment complex.

Heck, nobody's posted any pictures of the site in well over two months now. How's construction going? How far along is it? Does anybody know?

The exterior is basically complete except for a few finishing touches at ground level and landscaping. Doesn't seem to have been much progress on the buildout of most (or any) of the interior floors from what is visible driving by the BW8-I10 flyover.

Can't forget about the "to go cup".  I always thought it was wild but I never complained.  For those that don't know...in most restaurants and bars you could request a to go cup where they would pour the remainder of your alcoholic beverage into a Styrofoam cup and "secure it"  with a piece of tape.

You can do this in Galveston, at least on the Strand and nearby areas
