  1. Hello! First time post and I must say I am very glad I stumbled upon this website. There seems to be a plethora of people willing to help which is important considering some of the unique issues with our Houston area. My issue is below: We live in a 50's vintage ranch house located in the SW portion of the loop. We are about to put up gutters because of a few problem areas, namely, you can't get in the front door with a sizeable downpour. My primary concern here is that in order to eliminate this problem we will need to put up 19' of gutter along a portion of the roof and then a diverter along another portion of the roof which will funnel water into the 19' of gutter I previously mentioned. The diverter is necessary due to the 'L' shape of the roof here and the way it hangs where the gutters would be hung. The downspout would be located at the end of the gutter section (away from the L) and is at a front corner of our house. It would be roughly 2-3' away from the driveway and about 2' from a flagstone path. It will come down in a landscaped bed. The downspout is roughly 50-75' from the street however there is a huge, beautiful age old Live oak with a spawling root system between the downspout and the street. As you might guess, I am not sure what to do with the water coming from the roof. I would prefer to do the work myself and have done some research regarding french drains, dry wells, and pop up emitters but am nervous in moving forward due my inexperience in dealing with the houston soil and how much water will be coming off the roof. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Please help!
