  1. Well tried the Berripop place and have to say not very impressed or thrilled by this addition. But guess it needs time. Just seemed like regular stuff I could get from a supermarket. Some of the local Gelato places are far better.

Is Los Alamedas is anything like there old location this will be a very good addition to LaCenterra.

Fit and Fresh along with Ottos sound interesting. The paper store is of no use.

  2. I had heard someone mention something about a tire store or perhaps an auto repari type place but it could well also be part of the apartment complex.

They are trying to sell the land in between the bank and strip center that still has basically no tenants after 2 years.

They are really trying hard to crap up this area.

CLA Newland doesn't care as we have been bitching at them for years over the lies they told when we moved here and what the land was to be used for.

As for the section on the other side of Grand Parkway I imagine thier time will come as you said they are still trying to sell houses so the lies still need to be told. Once that phase is done then they start putting in whatever they want.

I have loved living in this area but I don't see myself being here another 14 years cause I think this section will eventually become the projects of Cinco Ranch we joke about now.

  3. Yep Cinco Range confirmed it is another apartment complex and yes Cla you have the correct name for it.

I was none to happy with this and informed Cinco Ranch how disappointed myself and others here in the Summerpointe Section will be. Not that they care nor does it matter to them but just felt good for me to let them know.

In fact they sounded almost cocky and happy that apartment complex number 5 was going up back here saying it will be a wonderful addition to Cinco Ranch and they were looking forward to its opening.

Really that is not the sentiment from the folks back here.

But then again we don't have much choice.

Time will tell if this section goes down due to all the apartments.

  4. Well seems Cinco is bustling with activity lately as a huge section of land on South Mason on the side and behind the strip mall has been cleared for construction. Unsure at this time what is going up but have asked Cinco association about it. From all looks as if the shady contractor who was trying to get an apartment complext built in that location may have "Gotten his paperwork right". They attempted to build here a couple years ago but I was told that the group was shady according to Cinco Ranch.

Will see what the response is from them this time.

If it is another apartment complex that will be number 5 in about a 5 mile radius back here.

  5. Projects? Seriously?

The ambulances are kept at the fire stations in this area.

No not serious its just a running joke with some of the long timers that live back here. I had a friend on the board for Cinco Ranch HOA years back and she said that it was felt by I guess the HOA or Newland or whomever but they would never build houses this cheap in Cinco Ranch again (The houses were selling around $70,000 to $110,000). Perhaps they did but I never ran across any of the newer sections going for that price. Also for many years while the other section of Cinco was always getting fresh flowers, beautification, etc our section back here was getting squat. We had to beg them to put in some bushes or anything to the entrances although we paid basically the same maintenance fees. So it is just sort of a running joke that the 2 subdivisions on the end of Mason were like the Projects of Cinco Ranch. We were here but that was about it.

  6. If you're hearing sirens at night (or any other time) it's most likely to be ambulances. Medical to fire calls run at least 4 to 1, and what drives medic calls are assisted senior living facilities, not apartments.

Could be but unsure. I did speak to one of the local deputies in the neighborhood one day and he said that they are seeing a lot of people traveling Mason Road back here and the feeder along the Westpark at very high speeds so perhaps it could be that or just a mix of all with the firestation just down the road.

Its been kind of hit or miss lately with many times nothing and then you get a spell where you here them quite a bit.

I know we are expecting some increase now that school is out. Have seen on quite a few occasions during the day where the local teenagers love to blast down Mason in thier shiny sports cars.

  7. Not really as 4 of the complexes are under Cinco Ranch Control and according to CR HOA they are going to keep a tight rein on the management, etc. But almost all of them are relativly new so only time will tell how they keep on the management companies. The other 2 units across the West Park I don't know who controls those and they are relativly new as well so again only time will tell.

The average cost to rent a one bedroom at the one's I checked was around $800 +++ On up.

Cinco was planning to build another complex on the corner of Mason and Fry which would have pretty much put 5 complexes within a 5 mile radius back here and there were many unhappy homeowners who bought out here under the lies of all land was going to be used only for Lotted homesites, schools. But then again Newland didn't care since the apartments are not by the lake homes or Bayou Oaks areas.

From my understanding they pulled the plug on the other complex because of something they deemed suspicious and shady about the management company that was trying to build it. It may still happen one day for all I know if someone comes in and gets thier stuff in order. If they do it will cause quite a stir as some very long time residents I know say they will probably move if more apartments come.

I can't say who lives in the complexes but was told by a couple people that it was mostly Hispanic, Black and Asian but I cannot vouch for that or back up those statements.

Perhaps if thier is someone on the boards who lives in one of the complexes can say.

  8. It's from all the chatter about low-income housing. The emergency services are just trying to get everybody prepped for what Katy will sound like once non-Americans move into the neighborhood.

Little bit late for that as the apartments have already taken over back here. This is the end of Mason Road which is the projects section of Cinco Ranch. As for Non-Americans can't say who back here is an actual citizen or not as we have an eclectic mix around here with a good bit of asian families buying houses back in this area. Most seem to be young families working for the engineering firms over on park 10 area. As for the apartments and who lives there not sure. Cinco Ranch HOA oversee's them which I guess is a good thng to keep them up to standards. Can't say who runs that huge complex off of 1093 and Westpark Tollway.

Firehouse is right down the road about mile and half but these were either police or ambulance.

We get a lot of racing and speeding back here ever since the West Park opened up.

Actually the Sirens have grow quiet lately.

  9. Kylejack the statement had nothing to do with you.

You have stated where you stand on issues and stood by that.

It goes back years and is just in reference to many of the well to do, etc out in the Cinco Ranch area and surrounding that for years have pounded down on people who have stated massive apartments will not be good for the area regardless of high end or low rent. Well the apartments have come and are going to continue to keep coming and now as you see in the media as the apartments come closer and closer to the fancy places they are starting to not like this and raising a stink.

Nothing I say is going to stop any apartments as it is just my opinion. But it is coming from living near low rent complexs for many years and living in a few apartment complex that changed hands and went from nice places to dumps. Part of this is because of the management and part because of the residents that live in the complex.

Again you are correct in my information would not stand in any debate as only statistics mean anything to most in a debate. Mine is pure life experiences and to me that counts more than any numbers or statistics.

  10. Who cares whether a bunch of people who don't live in this area want to be flamers on the issue its the people who have invested many years of money on the area for nice homes and schools probably trying to get away from the same thing some fly by night developer wishes to build to make a qucik buck from the government and then bail.

In city after city, year after year it is a never ending circle that low income apartments end up becoming slums which in turn lead to high crime which in turn destroys any value of property, etc around it. You go look at most of those complexs and see who is living in them and you will find in many cities it is Blacks/Hispanics. Hell the blacks and hispanics will tell you what is going to happen in those places over time. In some areas you may find Asians as well along with some poor white trash. But don't come off that all people who live in low cost housing hold down all the low end jobs cause most of them don't hold jobs at all. You probably have about 10% of residents who actually give a crap about themselves or the place they live. The rest are there usually cause uncle sam is funding the majority of it from behind the scenes.

If these people in the Grand Harbor area or any of the areas around Katy don't want these slums coming up then more power to them. Also they will be adding more kids to already overcrowded schools.

Personaly I don't want to see anymore apartments go up regardless of luxury or low rent. But they will keep on building them as the developers have taken control of the area and what goes in.

Funny how for years some people have been stating that apartments are going to be no good for this area and got shouted down as racist, etc or whatever you wanted to call them (pretty much the same being said in the earlier post in this thread) but now that apartments are springing up in massive numbers and crowding in on many planned communities, etc a different tune is being heard.

  11. Wow I have been back here on the end of Fry Road for close to 13 years now and I have rarely ever heard sirens in the area. But in the last 6 months it seems like its almost a nightly thing to hear sirens zooming around back here. I can't say what is the cause but they sure are regular around here now.

  12. Well Galveston will be nice for a littel while longer.

At least until they rebuild the public housing and bring back full bore all the free services from UTMB, etc before the storm.

Its kind of a catch 22 as you have some people who really need it but the reality is what it will really become is a slum ridden with crime, etc.

Its funny I have had so many people tell me lately how they thought Galveston was so much nicer one year after the storm. I asked some of them how and they said it didn't feel like they were driving into a dump upon entering the island anymore and that the storm forced people to rebuild or spruce up all the old run down places it had for so many years.

Have to agree on that as we are out there many weekends and the Island while still Galveston feels cleaner and more safe for some reason. It feels so much different in a sense that the island could be so much more of a mecca so to speak but the forces that be will try to bring it back many of the faults from the past to get the almighty federal dollar.

Guess time will tell if they can make it all blend.

  13. Man whos is doing the installations for you all.

I have had Dish for going on 12 years and can count the times my picture went out in that time on my 2 hands. My dish sits on the top of my fireplace chimeny and it has to be one hellashish lightening storm to make my signal drop and then its only for a short time.

There customer service has gone down dramatically over the years and have added a bunch of nickel and dime cost add ons but for the most part for about $100 month I have everything except the HBO/Showtime packages.

Thinking of Uverse package but still think they have a little ways to go yet as some people I talked to who have it say the HD quality is not on par with the sat services currently. Also they offer you a ton of stuff but the reality is unless you are really close to the box your services start to diminish. Might try it on trial basis later though.

  14. When we first moved here years ago we were told that leasing and Renting was prohibited in Cinco Ranch. But recently over the last year we have seen a bunch of homes for lease.

I was curious about this so asked Cinco Ranch HOA and thier reply to me was that there has never been any restrictions on leasing.

So according to the Cinco Ranch HOA it is ok to lease homes. As for what is available cannot say but the 3 I had seen up for lease in our neighborhood went very quickly.

  15. Haha the pigs bring back memories of when we first moved here before all the mass of houses and there were just to subdivisions back here. All else was empty prarie.

Not unusual to see the big hogs in the middle of the road or roaming around milling through folks yards at night. Lots of Foxes, deer, etc back here. Until they cut into the reservoir behind Creech you used to see a lot more of it. You would hear packs of dogs howling at night. Course with no street lights it was pretty dark around here.

  16. Or they could have just planned it out a bit better before just allowing anything and everyone to build on top of each other with out any thought for the traffic flow.

Typical of how things are going out here over the past few years. Build, Build, Build and worry about what happens later then try to half ass fix the mess.

  17. I've been here a while and it sure didn't seem like this years ago.

Funny I moved out here years ago because old katy reminded me kind of the little town I grew up in South La. But as the years have passed and we have been swamped with PTA/Soccer mom zombie hoarde it feels like I am in the middle of a California/Dallas clone zone.

I'd say it could be money but you know some of these folks don't have a pot to piss in now that these mega loans have been revoked. But the attitude of I will do what I please and my kids will do what they want still prevails.

I tell you I am a people watcher and it is one hell of a show to see.

  18. BW3'S

My goodness this place has none of the flavor of past BW3'S I used to frequent like Rice Village, etc. It has been suburbanized.

Love their wings, etc but so far the service is still bad and the screaming children noise level was out the box this afternoon. Course that falls on the parents as it seems to be the same type of crowd that frequent's the Chili's, etc. Sit an watch as your children run around insane and throw food all over the place then calmly get up and leave with the attitude of they get paid to clean up my kids mess (Parents watched as their kid littered the floor with food and then calmly paid the bill, picked her up and left, stepping on the food as they exited the table).

We had someone's kid get up this evening and just stand at our table watching us for a long period while lifting his shirt and rubbing or scratching himself on the stomach and his folks just sat there watching. I don't know if I wanted to smack the kid in the head and tell him to go sit down or get up and smack his folks for sitting by just in oblivion of what was going on with thier kids.

Man summer has just started and it looks like parents are already anxiously waiting for school to start up again.
