  1. It looks like it won't be open until after this winter. I haven't seen much happen on the part under I-10. The retaining wall is in place and the soil work has been completed so you can bike under it you want, but its been like that for 3 months or so. They are probably trying to finish the resurfacing along eldridge first. They added a big bridge across the bayou next to eldridge just recently (its not open yet), and a paved trail down to Enclave. They are probably trying to make a direct bike to work link from north of Bear Creek to the Enclave buiness park. (Which has expanded along with Eldridge)
  2. I biked behind this over the holiday. The lot & building is pretty small and it looks like they only have room for 4-6 stories.
  3. One of the most important rolls of the executive branch is holding congress in check with vetos. As a side election poll, how would you vote for McCain or Obama under the following conditions (if they were assured): A. Republican controlled House and Senate control >60% - enough to block filibusters B. Republican controlled House and Senate by slim majorities C. Divided control of Congress D. Democratic controlled House and Senate by slim majorities E. Democratic controlled House and Senate control >60% - enough to block filibusters
  4. The "republican national comittee welcoming committee" has about 200 members, more than half have been arrested with felony charges. There was a peaceful protest near by that had a lot more people, the peolpe at the protest should be upset that these criminals stole the spotlight. The First amendment guarantees the freedom of speech, but does not guarantee any sort of right to force people to listen. You only have to look at the states throughout history that did force people to listen to see the how much at odds these two principals are. As for Joe Lieberman, the personal cost for him is the end of his political carrier if McCain fails. Who else that spoke at either convention took that risk? I put his example up as someone who really did exercise his freedom of speech as a contrast. He said something in a private forum he was invited to that he felt he needed to say that carries personal risk to himself. If you didn
  5. If you are at all interested in the west side of Houston, check out the details of the report the developers of the supertarget site put together: http://www.propertycommerce.com/flyers/flyer77.pdf Tons of demographic info. This is really a big new development, that I think will probably be the finishing blow to kill west oaks mall.
  6. The law doesn't seem like it would make any difference in this case. By flying in his families jet at his expense how would it be any different then "paying the full cost." How can you not pay the full cost when it is your plane? Now if he had being traveling by Magic Carpet (Which I assume is free to operate) then I would be upset.
  7. Here are some great quotes from the "Republican Convention Welcoming Committee" Group that you are defending Source: Wall street Journal, Article "Republican Convention Sees Violent Demonstrations", Sept 4, 2008 "I think it really exposes that we live in a police state," said a woman who gave her name as Loaf Owls, her age as 20 years old, and said she was a professional clown. "Someone at the march said yesterday that anarchists are protectors of the people, and that pretty much sums up why I'm here." "We'll protest the grass being green," shouted Robert Wilson, 45, who said he is homeless. "I love protesting. My favorite cologne is pepper spray." Speaking your mind in public is one thing - like Joe Leiberman did at the convention at great personal cost - (and with internet forums like this it is pretty easy to do). Breaking into a private meeting for the media spotlight the organizers of the event attracted that you can't attract for yourself is something entirely different. If these individuals were not invited and trespassed, they should be charged with grand larceny for they effectively stole the cost of a 10 second prime time TV ad. I hope that turns out to be the case and they get to spend the time in jail that a millon dollar heist deserves. It shouldn't matter if you agree with their opinion or not (think of the flip side here - abortion clinic bombers of an empty clinic) they are criminals and should be held to account.
  8. I found this map of the planned expansion. It will nice when it is done. http://www.energycorridor.org/news/enewsle...ECD%20Trail.pdf
  9. More on this in the Hosuton Buisness Journal: http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto...02/daily52.html They are building a 14 story Hotel there as well (driving on I-10 east you can see the foundation is in place next to where the building is going up.) The article also hints at the possibility of a second 17 story tower. That would make that area quite a site indeed. The I-10 corridor is really getting a boost out by Beltway 8 in anticipation of I-10's constuction completion. With 3 mid rise condos going up, several new buildings, and high end retail explansion it makes me wonder if in 10 years it will feel like the stretch of 610 in the galleria.
  10. I am not sure but I would guess this fall with I-10. I went up to this area on the a bout a week ago (on the side of the trail that is not being resurfaced) and it looked like if you could go across now if you don't mind riding on the dirt. I have seen a sign on the north side of I-10 that has a sign on the top of the earthen dam that says "comming Soon Terry hershey Park Extension" (It amazes me that they can pay for these signs but can't put up any useful info on the PCT3 website). The sign is exciting but I am a little scared that the trail will only go on the top of dam and be in the full sun. I have also heard rumors that the park is going to extend south at highway 6 to connect to the new Houston super trail on Brays Bayou (www.projectbrays.org ), and also near Beltway 8.
  11. I can see this post is a bit old, but it is so difficult to find information on trail construction in Houston that I thought I would post. This is definitly happening. The connection is going under I-10 near Eldridge. I think they are just waiting for I-10 to finish, I bike on Terry Hersey all the time, before the resurfacing started, you could see where they had prepped the ground and put up a retaining wall under I-10, on the east side of the Northernmost bayou bridge. There is a Parking lot that used to connect to the I-10 feeder that you have to through to see where it will go under, so it was easy to miss.
