  1. Great suggestion. I never thought about turning it on for the sidewalk.
  2. It was on the street. I know this happens a lot in Midtown (that's why I always park in the garage). Those are some my concerns as well. However, I think they still might be helpful in at least making sure no one is creeping around while at work. I guess it all boils down to what can we as a community do in order to fight back and prevent some of this from happening (other than the usual stuff like locking doors, parking in the garage, etc.)? For example, should we call the police on those guys you might see walking around at night on the darker streets... constantly looking over their shoulder... sometimes carrying a small empty bag? What about the types that are pushing an empty shopping cart? I'm not talking about the homeless (who are usually asleep by then and are harmless). How would you define a person as "suspicious" for Midtown standards?
  3. This weekend, there were two incidents of crime that occurred around my house. Friday night, I called the police on two guys hurriedly pushing a nice grill in a shopping cart down the road at 2:30 am (unfortunately they got away). Then this morning, I saw my neighbor's car with its front window smashed in. Because of these incidents, I've been thinking a little more about crime deterrents and wanted to throw a couple questions out there for all of you... 1. Has anyone looked into (or know anything about) neighborhood security camera systems? I've read articles recently about how some neighborhoods have turned to privately operated neighborhood camera systems... and crime has dropped tremendously from them. 2. HPD's website contains this quote about crime prevention... "Know who belongs in your neighborhood. Report suspicious persons immediately."... and they provide the phone number to HPD South Central division. Well, in Midtown... what would be your definition of a "suspicious person"?
  4. I agree. My wife and I just bought a townhouse in midtown, and we plan to spend a lot of time at HP. I'm sure we will be bumping into many of our neighbors there.
  5. I think it's starting to look fantastic. I like how they are putting in trees on both sides of Elgin (it should look really cool in several years). Not sure what you mean by the "pathetic rail". Houston needs more mass transit like it. And as far as "fumes of waiting cars"... I'm going to be walking/biking to this place... as a lot of us will be.
  6. I actually think it's a smart move. Maybe they figure between all of the convention goers and girls going out to the clubs in Midtown/Downtown, they will pull in a lot of business from girls that need something for their "night out on the town". I think the place could rack up some serious sales.
