Not sure how the music works at HEB, but alot of times its 80`s dance music...and not radio stuff, the kind they played at numbers in the day. The stores they are building seem to lower themselves to the surrounding residents. HEB at GGate is gross...people are always eating items, you see open packages everywhere....I try not to go there. Wal mart just reminds me of poor suburbs, keep them there. I actually am kinda giving up on the East End and will be selling sometime in the near future. I really feel the hood is getting worse. House prices in my area also seem to be falling?

Yeah, a couple of mine have just rotted and are literally falling apart. Trying to sleep in the master bedroom was more akin to camping at first. Then I just brought out the duct tape as a temporary measure. And I don't have the option to skimp on the back windows, unfortunately, because the whole house faces one street or another.
Oj ya, temporary measures...those last me yrs...I temp. have plywood over the kitchen window...going on 6 months now..hahahhaha

ya my pet peeve as well...I just hate the high electricity bills...have gotten several new sashes at atkins..but need a couple more. In all honesty I was just going to install them on the side of the house that faces neighbors house...no one sees them, and maybe in the back...I will keep messing with these for a bit...just hard as I am a perfectionist and try to recreate the windows exactly as intended...

So I have redone a couple of wood windows, new frames, the whole thing...over it and thinking about using the cheapies at H@me Depot...you know the white ones with dividers, usually 6 over 6, aluminum....is there a way to make them look nice? I think they are tacky just installed with 1x4s framing it like a pic. Thought about recessing them maybe a inch, or putting drip cap on top..not sure ..any suggestions?

Just wait...on the east side instead of light rail we will have buses dressed up like light rail....they will take the place of the ones currently dressed like vintage trolleys

The market for single female homebuyers is rapidly growing, and I think that a fair number of them are intimidated by the male-dominated professions that must be dealt with in the process. If your friend caters to that market, I think that she might be able to do very well for herself.
Of course, if she's cute, she'll do well for herself whether she caters to one gender or the another.
Oh she will do great then...thanks for the remarks everyone

Anyone want to have a happy hr at Onion Creek??? Doesnt matter when, just dying to do something different
-
well I realize its male dominated, but would you have a problem with it, or would you prefer it? For those that didnt realize from previous posts, I have a friend who is new to the country and is getting her license here. So just testing the waters for her....AND be honest

Damn 4 houses have been hit (robbed) on my street that I know of (ya including mine), is it bad everywhere or what...after this I am really thinking about moving back out past the beltway again (damn that sounds so scary)...and in case you were wondering I live on Claremont..seems it all happens in the middle of the afternoon....

Oh I have been to Donarakis..twice..thought the first time was a fluke. I heard one of the best quotes ever from the mgr there....he asked what I thought about the place and told him my margarita tasted like it had no tequila in it. His response was ...oh everyone says that here, its cause we use smooth tequila and you dont taste it...pffff whatever. They get freeway traffic, so ya if easily accesable (sp?) I guess anything could work.

well they seem to have most of the same qualifications....but it really seems like everyone I know has a real estate licsense...just wondering about the inspectors...where are they?
-
well what I meant was, not sure people have enough expendable money for things like that...last time I went it ended up being like 60.00 for 2 people and most in my hood have more than 2 per household and dont get out to much because of that.

This will be a great location for a movie theater, not a 24, or 30 screens. I'm talking about maybe Alamo Drafthouse, a Movie Tavern, or Star Cinema Grill.
Demographics of the neighborhood wouldnt support such a venture....but it would be awesome to have something a little different in the hood.
-
so its legal to work without ss number and just the alternative number?
-
well if looks fairly easy to do the academics, but is it easy to break into the buisness...I see you have to have a sponsor for a while, are you working for free during that time? Is there a demand for inspectors? Why does everyone work for themselves? How do you get refferals from real estate agents?
-
have some general questions about the buisness.
-
well these same people, I am sure, would blame someone else if gas was 6$ a gallon. Anyway, maybe my statements arent very clear, but hopefully my core idea is coming thru.

You are insinuating that somehow them consuming oil and oil products conficts with them thinking we shouldn't trade blood for oil (their words not mine). This doesn't make any sense to me. Put yourself in their shoes. Do you not think it is a possiblility that if we hadn't gone to war he could continue to use his oil products??? Perhaps that's the chain of events he would have preferred. What is so hard to understand about that?
I'm sure there could be a rational complaint about these people but you haven't verbalized it yet.
Jason
They were the ones with the signs, so like me, they feel the war is about oil..so why continue to contibute to the problem as they see it..problem being oil consumption and our need to control supplies..maybe I dont make sense in text, but those idiots in the parade were asses, but it is their right.
-
these people were actually IN the parade...not sure how that works.
-
So at the veterans parade, there were people with signs that said no more blood for oil...ok cool, got that, but these same people were driving cars, and wearing tennis shoes with rubber soles? Why do they keep contributing to the demand for oil? I am sure they use plastic as well as complain about the cost of fuel when it rises..I agree that may be the real reason we are over there, but also see the big picture that we rely on oil, and not willing to give up my lifestyle, so see the reason we are over there...Please dont waste bandwith with stupid comments, just explain what these peoples complaint is, and why they still use oil products?

A demographic change to more white people on the east side ? It would take a huge amount of white people to do that, since every time Ive gone over to the east side it seemed predominanently hispanic, (probably 75-80% hispanic, and 10+% black and just a fraction of whites).
ya this is more what I was refering to...
-
I have noticed a big demographics change at the grocery store over the last 6 months or so...is it my imagination?? I have also heard a few derogatory remarks at the store aimed at hispanics....just outright rude and ignorant remarks. Any one notice this?
-
Yes, but lately there seem to be more so I hardly get noticed. I suppose the next step will be to start announcing the store specials in English every now and then.
I know what you mean about the Gulfgate HEB...instead of making it nice, they turned it into a Fiesta...if people want Fiesta, they will go there..they should be trying to improve the neighborhood, but I do love the 80`s dance music they play there. You must be the other cracker I saw...hahah...and are the demographics of the neighborhood changing or is it just me...kinda noticed it at the store last 6 months
-
happened to me too..I looked quickly but the little rug rats ran off too fast....really wanted to catch them and find their parents...I was the only one on the street giving out actuall candy bars, go figure.

The music is great...its all the discount stores they are building...stuff like Latino Cuts...etc...and you are right, I think I will be happier in the burbs. The chains I hate, nice independents I love.
