  1. Seems work has finally started on the project redo. They've taken down all of the external walls and seem to be moving from building to building.
  2. You'd think it'd have to be a highrise, with all the exsisting condos around. I can't see a sprawling community, unless it's a very tiny one.
  3. I had heard somewhere that Snow White is trying to fight the deal, and that they've got till like March before they have to move from the area. Hopefully Texas Towing is the next to get the boot!
  4. Wow, sounds like they're going to be busy over there. Hopefully the older parts of the post will get some attention from all this construction. There are historic sections of Ft. Sam that haven't been used in 30 or 40 years. I'd like to think that the new work will also help Government Hill, the historic neighborhood outside of the gates, but I doubt it. Even with historical designation, the area still hasn't started to turn around.
  5. I wonder if they'll completely tear down the current shell or use it in some fashion. I know the current shell doesn't seem to allow for parking on the bottom, but of course that's northing a good jackhammer can't solve.
  6. Fox Photo? Wow, so that place did have a name. I saw that building coming down over the past week. While it's sad to see old places go, it's better to loose them then have them sit run down and no chance of repair. It's good to see that strip of Broadway getting some attention. Hopefully they'll eventually get around to doing something with the old ButterKrust factory.
  7. Ah, first I've heard of this development going in. Good to hear though, that side of 281 needs a good scrubbing. I also heard that the partial buildings which the guy ran outta money have been bought. Wonder if they'll complete the place now, or just start from scratch. All we need now is to get Samuel's Glass and Texas Towing out of the area.

  9. Not a streetcar, but a freight railroad line. In fact it was Texas' shortest railroad. At just over a mile long, these tracks are part of the Texas Transportation Company's electric rail line. The Texas Transportation Company (reporting marks TXTC) worked the line with two electric locomotives and hauled supplies from, and beer to the Souther Railroad's main junction point. Although TXTC was owned in whole by the Pearl Brewing Company, it also did work for the Lone Star Brewery, back when it was located just down the road from Pearl on Jones Avenue. When Pabst closed the Pearl Brewery in 2001 TXTC shut down as well. Silver Ventures plans on keeping all of the original tracks in place and incorporating them into the grounds. On a side note, one of TXTC's locomotives (Engine #2) was completely restored and is now on display in front of the Pearl Stable (meeting and event hall). The other engine is in storage, awaiting it's undetermined fate. Pictures of both are below:
  10. Hi all. I just registered to answer some of your questions. I was searching The Google for information on the brewery and came across this thread. So, here goes! Yes, Lone Star and Pearl are still both produced. Both beers are owned by Pabst, who contracts out all of their brewing. While Lone Star is brewed in several diffrent places, Pearl is only produced in Miller's Fort Worth brewery. And yes, Lone Star's brewery was in San Antonio, both of them. The first Lone Star brewery (pre-prohibition) is now the San Antonio Museum of Art. The second, and more widely know Lone Star brewery (post-prohibition) sits south of downtown, empty, run down, and forgotten.
