  1. If you had my inlaws, you would want to live in a gated community too, maybe even with a moat around it. And what is with the sarcasm? Having a bad day?
  2. I am a realtor, and I also own a Gehan home. I have the Notre Dame floor plan. My home came with Corian counters, rounded sheet rock corners, beautiful cast stone fireplace, nice ceramic tile in all baths, and foyer, hallway all the way to the kitchen, etc. We did decide to throw some upgrades like hardwood flooring, changed out light fixtures, granite counters, etc. My neighbor across the street was a sales counselor for Gehan in my neighborhood, and watched most of the homes going up. I can honestly say, the customer service was excellent, and I have not heard of any problems from any of my neighbors. I think a lot of any new construction depends on the construction site manager and crews they having working on the homes. Being a realtor, I can tell you first hand, that the same builder but different neighbrohoods, can be a totally different experience. If I were you, I would try to talk to neighbors that just happen to be outside and get an opinion first hand before deciding on a builder and/or neighborhood. Hope this helps!
  3. I live in a guard gated community. I chose this community for two reasons. One, I loved my home, it was perfect for my husband and I, and two, my inlaws live about 1 -1 1/2 miles away, and I wanted to keep them out. We are private people, and they have a habit of having an "open door" policy. Not for us. Yes, the criminal element can still get in, and yes, it is not perfect, gates do break. We have lived in other gated communities, in other states, and it is pretty much all the same. However, the short time we have lived here in the Houston area, crime has gone up significantly, and when my husband travels, I feel much better knowing there is a live 24 hour person on duty, and security cameras thruought. Call it a peace of mind.
