  1. I don't really see crime ever becoming an issue in TW; my personal opinion. The worst crimes will be speeding.

Also, where do you see advertisments for TW living? Maybe I'm just thinking of billboards, but I haven't really seen anything else.

Well I guess I meant the billboards and mostly word of mouth. The usual "come live in The Woodlands".

  2. They put on their pants one leg at a time just like the rest of the world.

Yep. I know a few co-workers that live in TW but work downtown. There is no way I would want that commute. I guess you have to take the good with the bad but there are good and decent neighborhoods that are closer in if you ask me with above average schools. I also think it's interesting that they advertise heavily to get you to move to TW which is great but what if a few years down the road it starts to get overcrowded, which I believe it already is. And you know what happens after overcrowding? Crime. Then where will they go if that happens? (although I'm not saying it will happen).

  3. Klein ISD also declined to move further with Northgate Forests' request to move into the district.

So did the people who wanted out of Spring in Northgate Forest send their kids to private schools? I go to the new Spring Clinic right across on 1960 and noticed Spring school buses exiting from there. I take it some of them couldn't afford the private schools. All their money goes on their homes, I guess.

  4. I would love to see pictures of the old, tree-laden Greenspoint. Never grew up there...

One weekend, exit 45 and greens and drive around. I've never noticed many trees at the Greenspoint Mall. Not much to see. It's your typical large mall with a lot of vacant department stores. I keep hearing they are supposed to reconstruct the mall to revitalize it but that hasn't happened yet.

  5. I remember back when Greenspoint Mall was a very busy mall. At christmas time they were so congested that they had to have police directing traffic. And every Independence Day there would be a huge fireworks show. Those days are gone now. I still go there every once in a blue moon and it's not as bad as some people claim as far as crime etc. Since it's mostly black and hispanic patrons, some people have a problem with that. I read somewhere that they were supposed to remodel/revitalize the mall and was wondering when the construction would start. I've always said that all those low income apartments in that area is what brought that mall down. Hopefully after the remodeling it will pick back up because it would be such a waste.

  6. even if the victim knew the killer, this will probably be the final nail in the coffin for that mall....or at least sales will be way down for the holidays there

Final nail in the coffin? I don't think so. This could have happened anywhere and I am sure most people that shop there will realize that.

  7. Well I guess I should give my opinion since I started this thread. I am mixed on this. To me, I feel the occupants of a gated community have a false sense of security within those gates. I don't think they are 100% secure. If a criminal element wants to get in, they'll get in. They will find a way. I also wonder about being secure from criminal elements on the outside, what about your neighbors? They could be white collar criminals. I also see it as an upscale segregated colony. I remember, I saw a gated community years ago in Louisiana and it was the first time I saw one. I didn't know what to think except maybe these were scared white folks trying to keep black folks away from them. I was young and naive. Of course, about a year ago some young punks broke into my home while I wasn't there and was looking for some valuables to steal. They didn't find any. I somewhat think differently about gated communities. If I could afford it, I wouldn't mind purchasing a home in one.

  8. Is your mom white, black or hispanic? What did your mom do after that?

My Mom was at a home owners meeting a few years back. She made the comment that certain streets were starting to look Ghetto (Southbelt Area).

The blacks in attendance started to hooping and a hollerin, like she has just called them the N-word or said "you people".

  9. Pros/cons of your gated community? For those who live in gated communities...

    1) What kind of gated community do you live in?

    2) What are the pros/cons?

    3) Do you really feel secure?

    4) Would you live in an open (non-gated) community?

I'd also like to hear from those who would like to live in a gated community and those who do not live in a gated community.

    Thanks.<script language=JavaScript>

  10. So where did Fizy24 go to? Topic starter?

Really, these topics are created by some and they vanish. Maybe everyone is an experiment?

This (topic word) is a highly offensive word to many people. I can never actually recall it being used in an affectionate or complimentary way, ever.

Recent example: Once a year our company displays the upcoming commercials and campaigns for the new year. About 2 years ago we ran about 6 new "test" commercials. One of the depts did not do proper research. The word was used several times during the commercial and showed a very blighted area of a big city. It was supposed to be in humor.

It wasn't, several people got up & walked out. Once the meeting was over, HR had been contacted and several managers were reprimanded. Keep in mind, this was just company employees that viewed but it was humilating enough to create an uproar amongst company organizations, etc. Last we heard they had to revamp the advertising dept and send some to diversity & sensitivity training. At least 1 manager was let go as result. We were never told if media had been notified or not. This was a real lesson and was really totally unnecessary. Assumptions and perceptions can cause plenty of damage in any place.

Public never saw the ad by the way. It was canned.

This is an ugly word. I see as an equivalent as the N word and so do hundreds or maybe thousands of people. To use it in any context is meant with ill intent and meant to deliberately hurt others. Any adult should have the common sense to not use in public much less in typing or writing.

I guess I am now part of this "test" but as long as we use these kinds of words as brazen as some then the world will remain seperated. Fitzy 24 where did ya go???

I am still here. I was just wanting to get everyone's opinion on it since it is used a lot here. When I first starting reading the threads I was offended by it (and still is) but I gather it is okay to use it here because nine times out of ten the same posters that use it freely here, wouldn't dare speak it in mixed company. I feel the same as you regarding it being an ugly word. A lot of people don't realize that "ghetto" started with jewish neighborhoods. So was the "there goes the neighborhood" phrase.

  11. Why has the Greenspoint area continued to hold such a "ghetto" stigma over the years. Crime was prevelant at one time but now and days it seems to have improved. The mall seems pretty busy normally and relatively new housing is present and popping up near and around the area. Is it as bad as people are saying or are they just exaggerating?

I don't think Greenspoint is as bad as it used to be and they were exaggering then too. I remember a while back a friend of mine asked if I still lived near Greenspoint, I told her that I bought a house not too far from Greenspoint. She looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently she bought into that "Gunspoint" meme. I used to live there in one of the apartments in the early 80's when it was nice (at least to me). One thing I like about it was the skyline view (especially at night) from my apartment. The apartment where I lived was at the perfect spot. I felt I lived in New York! I drove that way a while back, I noticed that apartment complex isn't there anymore. I think there is a park there now. Most of those apartments used to be "adult only" apartments but there's no such thing now. Another poster said it was well kept and clean looking. I agree. I don't go through there (Greens to the Tollroad) as often but I think they really straightened out the place. I also hear the mall will get some makeup which is good because it would be a shame to let a nice and spacious mall like that go downhill. I hate that it was nickednamed "Gunspoint" but hopefully that description will be done with completely.
