  1. The whole Galleria area is a traffic nightmare.. especially at happy hour, especially on fridays.

I live there and deal with it every day.. IT sucks.

There are other places that dont have downtown parking isues or uptown traffic nightmares.

    How bout the Village Area...

    How bout something off Washington.

How bout The Tavern or Sherlocks West Gray..something in the middle.

I'm putting forth my "Nay" to Richmond arms or anything else that involves galleria traffic.

if you think the traffic and parking is bad in the downtown and galleria area, I wouldn't recommend the village. Especially with the construction in Kirby. Trust me, I live out there.

  2. if you want train/parks/artsy....probably hermann park/museum area. there are several HAIF members who live there that can probably more info on prices.

My interns were telling me that they live on Holly Hall/Cambridge. The light rail is only a block away from their apartments and the rent is about 600-750 a month depending on which apartment complex. Welcome to Houston.

  3. That's pretty much it. I use to do most my training in Aug. It gets really hot and dry around that time of year, it was almost a sure thing that someone became a heat casualty.

I did run up there around May and I must admit when it rains and everything is green the post looks nice.

Someone had asked earlier about what there is to do there. I just remembered that there is a sports bar with bowling and pool tables, a couple of museums, movie theater with really old movies showing occasionally and of course the main PX and shoppettes. That's about it. You will probably find far more things to do off post.

As far as pics, sorry I don't have any (photo taking is usually prohibited or at least frown upon)if I did I wouldn't feel right posting them (OPSEC). You can always google there website.Believe me you are not missing much

I forgot about the bowling alley.

  4. Not much. I guess that's why little towns outside of posts exist. Killeen has really grown over the years. I'm usually on post just for training.

Funny that is EXACTLY what my father said.

  5. Overpriced, yes. Disgusting... I wouldn't characterize it as that.I enjoyed Bayou City Seafood N Pasta on Richmond.

Ahh I love that place. Doesn't look fancy on the outside but it is nice inside.

  6. Everyone wonders that if you were in a certain situation of desperation what would you do?

I will create a short synopsis of what may or could happen (hopefully not) and see what you might choose.

Your flight has crash landed in an uninhabited island in the far southeast. You are with about 15 survivors. There are all types of characters and people of different backgrounds. Once everyone has collected their thoughts and come to the realization of what has happened, you all start needing to decide what to do. All of the radio or communication equipment is destroyed. All that remains is materials of what was inside the airplane. That is cloth, minimal food, drinks, fire extinguishers, etc. Only one of the flight crew survived, a young female flight attendant. As what would be expected, some try to take charge. Which person would you rely on for guidance?

    1. The person that listens to your ideas, gives it thought and then reacts.

    2. The eternal optimist. No matter how dire things become, lifts your spirits and continues to tells everyone that someone will find you.

    3. The one that says " We are gonners, no one will ever come around to help us. Let's just jump off the cliff and end it.

    4. The creative person that can make something out of anything. Frugal or thrifty, but this person can make a fire or build a shelter out of anything ie; palm leaves, straw, wood or rocks.

    5. The one that gives you spiritual guidance, but not doing it in an intrusive and too personal way.

    6. The military experienced person. Knows how to make things work despite the dismal outlook.

    7. The controlling and obnoxious person that orders everyone around and creates more animosity within the group.

    8. The older more seasoned and experienced individual that has seen it all and has ideas that work.

I could go on but I often wonder and pray I never find myself in this situation but just like to see how some feel about this scenario.

PS Happy BDay to me, it was yesterday! Ha ha! :P

Sounds like you are talking about Gilligan's Island. well since you ask. Let's see know. Since I'm the Surgeon, I would make sure everybody blood pressure was okay and then I have a party so I can create a signal. I would turn to the creative person to make the signal and the military person for protection should there be a weirdo on the island.

  7. Exactly.

Have plenty on hand. In fact that is all thats in the frig besides skimmed milk.

Happy to report that since I started this topic I have met and actually exceeded my goal. Best Bday present I ever gave to myself (besides a 12 pk of brew) .

I have to wear a belt now. Bought new, tighter belts and got rid of pants and any reminders of beer gut days. Been dancing more than ever and still more active than ever. Its practically in the bag. Sounds cliche' but...

It really is a wonderful life!

I am very glad to hear that. That is EXACTLY what the Dr wanted to hear. Just don't go overboard on the good stuff. Okay.

  8. What do you want to know? Yeah it's big, that's about it. To me it's just a regular military post.

My future ex is in the National Guard and I have to go up there. I been there, but not really familiar with it. I received a call from the military medical personnel about some cases and they want me to go up there ASAP. I have to stay on base but I can't remember what a civilian can do on base?

  9. Some people use it that way. a black friend of mine calls the pappadeaux on the south loop the ghetto pappadeaux because its black clientele is predominant.

when I was growing up, i was told that the Ghetto was the bad part of town.

  10. We all know there are hundreds of books, infommercials and talk shows on the subject. If you ever have or are planning on dropping a few lbs of blubber how would you do it?

I started eating less meat (especially heavy meat) over 3 weeks ago and am finding that my belt is way loose than before. I fell better and sleep better. I also started taking Centrum multi vitamins to make up for the excess stuff I used to snack on. I have one good thing on my favor, I do not have a sweet tooth. I simply never have craved any desserts or candy or anything in that dept. I can't even recall the last time I ate a chocolate bar. If in line at Luby's I just glance at the sweets and move on.

So here is where I am at.

I buy only fruits/fruit drinks & skim milk at the grocery store. If I drink a soda, I make sure I always dilute it with a few chunks of ice. It wont be so strong and not as sweet.

Try to avoid buffet-all you can eat places, if I do go I just eat plenty of salad first. Then If I eat its mostly fish like salmon.

Do as much yard work as possible to sweat. Thats the best thing for you. Sweat (not in public of course)

I avoid eating late and especially just before going to bed.

Here's the killer, cut down on beer. Torture but worth it. Get a hobby takes away the temptation.

If I do drink that night, I make sure I dance, dance, dance. Just get rid of it.

Walk as much as possible if you hate running like moi. When at a mall, walk from one point to another. Just freaking do it!

If any of you have good suggestion's please divulge.

I know I was perfect before but since I'm so vain I thought I might as well push it to the limit. Can't these good looks go to waste! Scaring myself now! :(

    Drink plenty of water..

  11. My neighbor asked me a question I could not answer.

With the rise of foreclosed homes in the Houston area , how would someone start a business to bid on cleaning those homes left trashed when the previous owners leave.

I checked with several friends in cleaning business, but none had every engaged in this form of cleaning before. I know someone here has the answer(s)

My friend has a cleaning company and she gets a lot of foreclosed homes. She recommend to talk to realtors in your area and buy them cookies along the way.

  12. That would be Ghetto-fab(ulous).

    Ick.

I thought the Ghettos would be from Yellowstone and beyond, where TSU is at and the Colllingsworth area. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In Surprise, Oilman Admits Iraq Kickbacks

    By ALAN FEUER

    Published: October 2, 2007

Oscar S. Wyatt Jr., the Texas oilman accused of cheating the United Nations oil-for-food program, pleaded guilty yesterday to paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in kickbacks to Saddam Hussein's government in 2001 to gain access to lucrative Iraqi oil contracts.

Mr. Wyatt's surprise plea came on the 14th day of his trial in United States District Court in Manhattan, before federal prosecutors finished presenting their case. Under an agreement with the government, he admitted guilt on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and is most likely to be sentenced to 18 to 24 months in prison rather than the 70 years he might have faced if convicted on all five counts of the indictment.

Mr. Wyatt, a former drill-bit salesman who rose to prominence in the Texas oil business, had proclaimed his innocence almost from the moment he was arrested two years ago at his home in the exclusive River Oaks section of Houston.

After rising before Judge Denny Chin to admit his guilt, Mr. Wyatt, a plain-spoken octogenarian, embraced his wife, Lynn, a doyenne of the Houston social scene known for her philanthropic work and taste for haute couture.

Wonder how Lynn feels about being referred to as a doyenne?

My mom is friends with Lynn Wyatt.. I'm sworn to secrecy

  14. A few.

Use 'Google this entire site' on the left sidebar and enter tatami and see if any come up - only if reviewers have mentioned them in their reviews.

Caution - a lot of the reviews are not to be believed, restaurantuers posting raves of their own restaurants and trashing the competition.

i like coco in montrose. Its right on westheimer right by half price book store.. Great place..

  15. Rosenberg, though I'm still technically a resident of Maine (Portland) who intends to return in a while.

BTW, what's with all of these old threads re-emerging all at once?

Grew up in Pecan Grove Plantation in Richmond but now live in West U. And loving it. Close to everything, especially the medical center..
