I'm assuming that you are referring to the fact that Allie's did close up shop? Never tried the place, but it is unfortunate when a business owner puts it on the line and doesn't succeed. I'm sure with the arrival of Perry's at lacenterra, it was probably even more difficult. Actually went to this Perry's this past weekend for the first time. I had been to the one in Sugar Land and this one is definitely smaller but on par in terms of decor and ambiance. It definitely is the nicest restaurant we have in Katy (and priciest too).

Haven't checked out the restaurant yet, but I did sign up to be on the email list, and got a new year's eve dinner special (or lack thereof) they are having... was kinda shocked at the prices that they quoted on the prix fixe dinner menu for the evening that they offered... $150 per person (before tax and 18% grat) for seatings after 8pm. Granted that wine pairings are included (doesn't mention what labels of wine... I imagine its not the pricey ones), but in this economy and given that this restaurant opened recently and doesn't even have a reputation yet, I can't imagine too many families out in the burbs shelling out for this event... A better marketing strategy would have been to offer a really low price so you would have tons of bookings and to get the word out... can't see this restaurant lasting halfway through 2009 with this type of marketing...

I signed up with Smith Thompson a couple of months ago after moving into a newly built home. Their cellular (uplink) system wasn't compatible with the builder installed Honeywell keypads, so they swapped the two of them out (free of charge) to DSC branded ones. They also installed at my request a motion detector (about $60) and a glass break sensor (another $60) in the Master Bedroom. The builder had prewired for these. Their monthly monitoring is about $18/month and you get a month free if you prepay for a year. Awesome deal! Haven't had any false alarms or breaks ins yet so not sure what their response time is yet. And I get my full insurance discount as well.

Who's the builder with the bad roofing jobs?

Anyone on this board have any experience or recommend a plumber to install a water softener? I'm moving into a newly built home in Katy at the end of this month and I know we have hard water out there (as I currently live in Katy and have already been through the hard-sell tactics of these water softener companies when we first moved in to our new neighborhood 3 years ago... they were trying to get me to buy one for $4500). I've done a ton of research on water softener products and various companies that resell them and found out that most companies (DuPure, Rainsoft, etc.) are all actually using the same valves and rebranding it with their own name with slight modifications (none for the better, but to make them proprietary so that you can only go through them for service/repair). I found out the main/best valve manufacturer is Fleck. I can actually get one of the top of the line Fleck 7000 softener (64,000 grain) for about $700-800 shipped from numerous online vendors (with full warranties). Now all I need is an experienced plumber to cut into the line and properly install it. I've got a ballpark figure in mind of how much it will cost for the plumber just from reading various forums and boards regarding water softeners. I'm hoping to get it all-in for less than $1k for a top of the line system which the other companies are marketing and selling anywhere from $2200 to $6000.

What area in Houston are you in? The reason I ask is because there is a great master carpenter in Katy (he only works in Katy as there is enough to keep in busy out here). He actually built our roof covered patio and he does not outsource or contract to cheap laborers. He does it all himself and brings his son-in law to help with the roofing since that requires two people. He has the best pricing and the best quality I could get.

Do you mind me asking how much your iron driveway gate was? I'm moving into a house in a couple of months with a motor court and drive-through porte cochere and was looking into getting a motorized electric gate. Is yours electric and/or solar powered? thanks!

Think of how many wing places are already in Katy: There's Wings N More and Wingstop on Mason, Wings & Rings in Villagio, and Wild Wings Cafe(?) off of Westgreen and I10 and then you got joints like Hooters to compete with. I like my wings too but only eat them once in awhile since they aren't the healthiest.

Anyone members of any country clubs in Katy? I'm looking into joining one to network and brush up on my golf. I know there is Willow Fork and Falcon Point. I think Meadowbrook Farms has a semi-private club membership. Any other clubs in/around Katy? Also, what are the approximate membership costs?
