Looking at old maps and google earth, it looks like much of Timbergrove was just undeveloped flood plain up until it was cleared to build homes. The neighborhood was developed in conjunction with the White Oak Bayou channelization projection. So, pre-channelization of the bayou, the land was probably too prone to flooding to farm.
If it was so prone to flooding, they would not have put a small cemetery there. 🙄

Another Heights restaurant closure coming up!
This one at the end of the month.
An additional closure is the Taquito Rico on Main and Pecore also at the end of this month. The building owner has other plans for that lot. The business owner will have a taco truck in the same area at some point.

Warehouse Bar and Chill closed some months ago. According to Houstonia, Gary Mosely and the Creek Group purchased it.Cactus Cove: This forthcoming bar and grill, tentatively named Cactus Cove, is one of several new concepts on the horizon from the Creek Group (Onion Creek Cafe, Cedar Creek Cafe, Lowbrow). Details are hush-hush for now, but look for the eatery to take over the former Warehouse Bar & Chill in the Timbergrove neighborhood.
https://www.houstoniamag.com/articles/2017/5/1/houston-restaurants-to-get-excited-forInteresting. Gary has the magic touch so I'm sure it will be a success. The WB&C people didn't have a clue to what they were doing.

Only 13 comments in that article in over a week. I can only imagine how many comments were deleted. A friend who works in another restaurant group with businesses in the same area as Treadsack told me he thinks they will no longer be in business in a few months. We shall see.

Word on the streets is the Ken Bridge of Delicious Concepts has sold all his restaurants (Pink's Pizza, Lola, Shepherd Park, Ritual) minus the Republic Diner + Sojubang to a new entity.

In late July the Salsas Mexican Grill replace the previous Peppers located on Durham and 21st St. Anyone been? North of I10, Shepherd seems to get the restaurants while Durham doesn't get any love.

There were quite a few done-up young women gathered at tables and at the bar. One or two were with much older men.
You mean the working girls that run the River Oaks/Galleria corridor?

The "War on Drugs" dates to 1971 with President Nixon. Nancy Reagan's anti-drug campaign was the "Just Say No" effort of the 1980s.

It's Nam Eatery, a Vietnamese restaurant at 502 E 20th St, either Ste B or Ste C.
I went there last night for some Pho. The lady next to me had the shaking beef which she like very much. I enjoyed the place.

I am in Shady Acres Annex. This is group of houses built right after WWII on 15th, 15 1/2th, and 16th one block long from the Turkey Creek to Dian. I bought in 2002 before most of the new construction started in the area. It's been a good investment for me. There is a newish home for sale on 15 1/2th right east of Dian and two homes on the corner of 16th and Prince. I don't know going prices for the new stuff. I wouldn't touch the Urban Living junk on Dian.
My former neighbors kids tested into Harvard elementary. There is no way they were going to put them into Love on Shepherd. That is where they were zoned to.

Restaurant Death Watch Reprieve: The El reopened on Wednesday. Not enough time to do a total revamp, but maybe to think about addressing issues listed on Yelp, Reddit, Google, and the Houston Press. They did seek outside expertise but no deal was executed AFAIK but maybe they will implement the free advice given. Or maybe not.
After months of negotiations and shopping around different partners, the deal was done two weeks ago. It's official.
Liberty Kitchen will run things now.

Primo location. The building will get a light remodel. An improvement nevertheless.
Glad to see Churches go, but wonder about a bit of a fried chicken glut in the Heights.

Not restaurant news, but The Boom Boom Room will have its closing party on Friday, 21st. The space has now been leased out to some very well known people in the bar biz.

"Stella Sola" building leased out. The last group from Yucatan Taco Stand leased for over a year and never did anything with it. A new group has now leased this building.
