  1. Now the thing has been praypainted on a brick strip center on the other side of Barker Cypress facing 290 : (

This one is pretty high up, so he may have used a step ladder...

Maybe he is gaining in confidence, could be the perfect time to catch him. I wonder if these developers will pay to have some private security there overnight....

  2. Noticed it too. There's a bit of irony there with the graffitti artists hitting the strip centers.

Locals should put both the strip center developers and the grafitti artists in the town stockade and pummel them with tomatoes.

Honestly, it's not that I care about the cost to the developer, it is more the image it suggests to the community...hopefully the people in the area won't stand for this type of vandalism.

  3. Comments like this one...

suggest that it is created by an "artist" as opposed to gangsters. As noted earlier, gang graffitti is normally one color and crude.

As for gang activity in Magnolia, I wouldn't be surprised to hear of the Trailer Park Crips, or the Barn Door Bloods, but it WOULD surprise me that they would mark territory on the 288 freeway in south Houston....or in Cypress.

    ...just sayin'.

Oh well, that was my fault...when I said it was "professional" i meant that it didn't look like the first time this was drawn by the individual, not that it was some thing of beauty or great skill...also, this was one color...

Anyway, I don't think it was gang related, I am sure it was just some punk looking for notoriety as has been stated previously, I was just posing the question as a possibility for discussion.

  4. no offense taken, not from Austin just went to school there...no doubt there is a ton of douchebag posturing and preaching...that is exactly what this kid was...turns out he was actually a friend of a friend...I don't talk to that girl anymore though....

Well, if you are such a graffiti expert perhaps you know what this means...on this new shopping center it says "DEMOS" as far as I can tell in some type of bubble font...the medium is acrylic spraypaint on glass (for all you artist optimists)

  5. infinite jim, are you from Hyde Park in Austin??? I only ask because we once heard a college kid who tagged "fetus" all over town (you may have seen it) was at a party and some people wanted to beat the crap out of him...they went to the party but the kid escaped out the bathroom window...so I guess you are right, they never get caught.

I can also add that I went to a high school that had moderate gang activity at the time, worse now, and their graffiti was not for artistic purposes...

  6. Kinda amusing that you think it is gangsters. Most graffitti is not created by gangsters at all. In fact, a rather notorious inner loop freeway sign graffitti artist was caught a few years back, and he turned out to be from Magnolia....a lot closer to Cypress than Houston.

Kinda amusing that you assume there cannot be gangsters in Magnolia...

Somone show me some research showing that "most" graffiti is not done by gangsters...at one time it was common practice for gangs to mark territory with graffiti, maybe that changed...

And unsolicited graffiti on other peoples' property is never done by artists, it is done by vandals.

  7. Commissioned is one thing, unsolicited is another...though I must agree that artist in Britain has some pretty funny and inventive works...can't remember his name off the top of my but he is rather well known...

EDIT:::Banksy!!! that's his name...these kids were no Banksys....

  8. Noticed some graffiti on the new shopping center along the feeder rd. of 290 past Barker-Cypress next to the new HEB...it was on the back of the building, barely visible, then they painted over it. Low and behold now it has been "tagged" on the glass windows of the shopping center facing 290!!!

What the hell is going on here? Are there gangs in this area? It looked like a pretty professional job...not just some vandalizing kids. Makes me sick...I hope they can catch these a**holes...I also wonder why they chose this shopping center and no others that I can tell?

  9. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5663859.html

Did they have different prices? I wonder why they sold so many more?

Yes, Charlotte and Phoenix played in arena's, so the capacity was much less, even so their tickets were cheaper than Reliants. Detroit was the other stadium setup - but their tickets had like 4 tiers with the cheap seats starting at like 40 bucks.

    See post #9...

I am going, but having the most expensive tickets to a regional tournament at a football arena built to house 70,000 people was definately a mistake, and the best seats and worst seats in the house are the same price. Ford field (the other regional hosted in a football stadium) has like 5 different price points. Hopefully these few shortfalls will be corrected in 2010.
  10. The stadium is used because they want to work out the kinks for the final four where the entire stadium will be open...money money money... I was at the club level and thought those seats were great, probably better than the back of the field level. The only thing I think they should change is the seats behind the basket should be moved in a bit.

And Calipari had his shot to prove it to the world on national TV and lost at home to Tennessee, who then didn't play a good game for the rest of the season...so that is why he didn't get any respect...he has it now, though, and they might not be done....they reminded me of the 1990 UNLV team. The beat down was unreal in person

So, which are the other two teams that Cal thinks will join his Tigers in the Dance?

I really hope it is UH, I want them to be good again in college athletics...but I hate Penders, and his stubborn decision to not recruit the Houston area will be the end of him...we have so much talent, why would you ignore it just to prove your point to the detriment of your program????

  11. I am only spekaing to Rick's comments about not coming back to Houston and play UH. The series between the two schools is tied. One would think...I

Instead keep playing Texas State, UC Davis, and TSU, et. al.

Agreed, wish we could have kept that series going...I guess Rick just thought we didn't need to make the trip to Houston for recruiting, we could do without it. Also, lets not get started on out of conference schedules, we played UCLA, Tennessee, Michigan State, Wisconsin, St. Mary's, Oral Roberts....all tournament teams, there are probably others I can't think of off the top of my head...

  12. Old chicken-Rick was exposed. Too bad he chose to end the series with UH.

Don't get me started on Penders, if you wouldn't kill to have Rick Barnes coach your team you are not a real Cougar fan...But agree Rick didn't draw up his best game plan, or make his best adjustments....

One thing that annoyed me about this Texas crowd is that they thought anytime we missed a shot or something went wrong for the horns it was supposed to be a foul or it was a bad call by the refs. I hope they're better fans at the football games.

Well, Texas got shafted a few times early in the game (a blatant five second call nearly gave me a heart attack) and that got us off on a bad note with the officials...it went downhill after that with the mounting frustration...

  13. I think they capped it at either 40 or 45 thousand tickets, can't remember the exact number now. The crowd yesterday was actaually pretty full, but it was Sunday afternoon, and the fans weren't quite awake yet, which is something we had in common with our team. Pretty embarrasing performance all around.

And kinkaid....I don't think Barnes is going anywhere, but after yesterday's performance he can do what he wants, our offense was completely worthless and our defense just didn't have the bodies...Callepari absolutely schooled Barnes on the x's and o's yesterday.

Memphis looked unbeatable this weekend...they are playing ball like I have never seen a team play...I would be shocked if they didn't win it all.

PS - Rick, I didn't mean that, I was talking out of anger, PLEASE DONT LEAVE!!!!

  14. If you only have two teams left, I think you can stop worrying about your bracket too.... ;)

Tennessee peaked at the wrong time, they hadn't played a good game since the Memphis win, I thought they would turn it around, my loss...at least I had them losing to Kansas in the Final Four...

  15. I need Memphis tonight to win for bracket purposes .

well, you are doing better than I am then, I lost my first final four team last night when Tennessee went down.

I have three of four left but don't hold out hope for taking the pot this year, now I can just root for the easiest road for Texas to the title. Stanford is going to be a very tough test for us tonight, the Lopez twins present a unique challenge.

  16. I gave my tics to some Candaian coworkers. They are going tonight and I am headed out of town.

    GO MEMPHIS!

Why the Memphis Backing...assuming from your screename you are a UH coog, just rooting for conference affiliation? I would think you would want Memphis to lose, especially given your current coaches propensity to recruit out of state...

  17. Well the event is a dry run for the final four, and we will host another regional in 2010 I think. They made a mistake by overpricing the seats to this event and not selling them all, I think there are 10,000 of the 45,000 seats still available and that is WITH TEXAS PLAYING.

    HOOKE EM HORNS!!!

Also, I believe Rice and UH are Co-Hosts.

  18. Architecturally, I actually think it kind of reminds me of the main student research library at UT in Austin (Perry Castaneda). And I don't think it was ever trying to compete with the LBJ library, I mean, presidential libraries are totally different animals.

Edit:: Why don't we have a president from Rice or U of H yet so we can get a library????

  19. They're talking about the MSA, the entire Metropolitan Statistical Area. First, should be no surprise is the Houston Galleria, your guess is as good as mine as to who the second is, but I think it is noteworthy to say that it Willowbrook is and has always been (for nearly 20 years) one of the top-performing malls in Houston and in the State of Texas.

Agreed, so say that, don't say you are the third best...those guys need to take a marketing/advertising class....

  20. Funny how in the actual flyer they say " Willowbrook is the 3rd best mall in Houston. "

Maybe true, but is that a fact or an opinion? They might as well say "Willowbrook is a really cool mall" or "Check this place out for a new restaurant, dude."

A new Cheesecake factory would be cool though. And if they can add three 8000 sf restaurants with large patios like they show on their website, maybe Willowbrook Mall will be the undisputed 3rd best mall in Houston.

What a joke, who would brag about being third best in anything??? Also, what are the top two, I mean, technically Willowbrook is in the Houston City Limits..I would think it would be the second best beside the Galleria, assuming First Colony and Woodlands are not in the city...maybe Memorial City Mall?

  21. however, some areas concern me.....when those KB Hones begin to rot what exactly happens?

I know what you mean about the south side of 290, but there are neighborhoods like Stonegate, Blackhorse, and Bridgelands down there that will likely age very well with their golf courses and strong HOAs. The KB homes down there are for lower income families now, and as they age....we'll see, but that problem is not unique to Cypress....

  22. just buy in Waller...10 extra minutes = alot more space for less money...

I ventured back to the NW this weekend...its jammed packed and not worth the drive if you got to work in downtown....its great if you work against the traffic like I did for 5 years.....

Like football said....champions, anywhere off 249 and cypresswood, etc. were great buys as the areas are mature with trees and you have several options to go home.....I lived off 249 and 1960 and worked in Waller County....I could go home though Tomball on 2920 to 249 or cut through by Cy-fair High, etc....

We live in Cypress and have mature trees (Coles Crossing)...also I commute into downtown every day on the park and ride, about an hour each way. Living in the area is easily worth an hour commute to me and my family, and obviously many others as the area is booming. Waller sure does have a lot of space but I would rather live in Cypress and have much better schools than Waller ISD for my children to attend and save the extra 10 minutes.

Also, many roads in the area are currently being widened...I never have traffic problems getting anywhere in Cypress...the Champions area along 1960 near 249 is a totally different story....

  23. They're creating the new template for landscape planning and have done an awesome job sculpting that landscape and accentuating the natural features like Cypress Creek.

I really think they are doing a quality job in the Bridgelands, and the park along the lakes they created on Cypress Creek with the disc golf course and gaint hardwoods is breathtakingly beautiful. But I can't stand the street layout and I swear the houses are set closer to the street than any other community. Those are the only two things that really bug me about the place...but maybe I am just slow to catch on to their ideas. Does anyone else see this? The houses seem really close to the street and give off a claustrophobic vibe...

I still think Coles Crossing and Longwood are it for me...but the Bridgelands has a Looooong way to go, give it time and I think it will become a great place to raise a family, which is what these neighborhoods are all about in the first place.
