  1. Very cluttered! this whole vicinity is becoming jammed with just about everything under the sun. Drowning in concrete, glass and steel. I see accidents on the rise especially with that pathetic rail flying by so often. Imagine with the fumes of the waiting cars, etc. If you like that cosmopolitan feel you found the right place baby.

    Is this sarcasm?

  2. and HCC's is two blocks from the superblock.

My comment regards more the Camden Travis site that is currently used for parking at night than the superblock that just sits empty all day and night. With the influx of residents, I'm sure even more bars and clubs will follow into Midtown which will make parking even more of a nightmare.

  3. So this and the McGowen superblock are fenced off now?

It's hard to believe that Camden will go forward with both of these at the same time. I'm guessing the superblock stays fenced off for a long while.

However, if Camden does in fact start construction on both of these soon that would put a huge dent in Midtown blight.

  4. I like going out in Houston, but it's definitely not a party city. I don't know if it's a city decision or a state decision, but I would love it if they moved last call back to 3 am. I just got back from Nashville where the bars close at 3 am, and that extra hour makes all the difference in the world. DC is the same way. Every time I got to those cities it's a party. NYC is the same way, but it takes it even farther with 4 am last call.

I don't see Houston ever doing this just because the city doesn't really have a solid tourist industry. The city is much more business and family focused. That's fine, but it would make for a more well rounded city, in my opinion.

Please join us on Thursday, May 29th to hear a presentation about The Mix at Midtown with its developer, Mr. George Levan, Managing Director of Crosspoint Properties. Mr. Levan will discuss his firm's experience in developing dense, multilevel retail and renovating existing structures for adaptive reuse. Crosspoint's current project, The Mix at Midtown, will have the largest 24 Hour Fitness inside the Loop and contain over 300,000 square feet of upscale retail on five city blocks upon completion. We will hold our meeting on the fourth floor of High Fashion Home, another recent Crosspoint Properties project.

Wow I guess this thing is serious. Very exciting for Midtown. The empty areas are being filled and that's fantastic.

  6. Actually, it doesn't really look like Boston at all. There are no Victorian Bowfronts (South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill). There are no triple deckers (Dorchester, JP, Mattapan). There are no single family homes (West Roxbury, JP). There are no highrises (Back Bay, Financial Center, Fort Point, Longwood).

However, the scale is similar to much of Boston. Walkable and dense without being overwhelming (like Manhattan can be).

That's really what I meant. Nothing specifically in Boston, but the style and midrise density.

  7. I think it is incredible the amount of apartment complexes that are under construction all over the city. For every neighborhood inside the loop there is at least one complex under construction. In Upper Kirby there are 3 off of the top of my head. Outside the loop there are quite a few as well. I was out by the Westchase/Energy Corridor today and noticed 2 large complexes in each district.

This is a good thing for Houston in my opinion. There are plenty of ownership options so this will provide more living options for people who can't or don't choose to own.

It's also interesting to look at this from an economic standpoint. The Houston economy is chugging along, driving the demand for these units to be built, but at the same point the national mortgage crisis is also forcing people to choose to rent instead of own.

Interesting, and somewhat exciting I suppose.

  8. I know the 24 HR sign has been up for a few weeks, but tonight when I drove by I saw the "Mix at Midtown" sign on the building. It looked pretty good, I must say. It also made me a little more optimistic about the project proposed across the street.

I still think there needs to be more residential in this area to support all of the retail around this proposal. Camden Travis will help, but that doesn't even break ground until this fall (if everything is still on schedule). Is it possible that Crosspoint is planning some residential for the next phase of the Mix? It would be a smart business move, I think, but from what I know Crosspoint isn't in the residential space.

  9. My buddies and I are looking to rent and found a place on the east side of Main in Midtown. The area still seems kind of shady. Are there still crime problems in this area? Obviously there are crime problems everywhere, but I would guess the west side of Midtown is much better.
