  1. Hubcap Grill 1111 Prairie St (713) 223-5885 It's BYOB too. Best burgers downtown - small little shack next to Alden hotel. I don't think you could spend $10 if you tried, maybe the Triple By-Pass Burger with sweet potatoe fries and a drink would get you close.
  2. Finally got to talk to someone at Books A Million. They don't carry either paper yet, but are hoping to soon. In the interim, Saturday paper needs have to be met by drive to Midtown. Surprising that there aren't boxes on the street.
  3. Does anyone know where I can buy a New York Times and The Wall Street Journal on the weekends downtown? On the street I've only found vending boxes for the Chronicle. It's not the same experience when you have to get in your car to go pick up a paper, as opposed to walking down to the corner etc. For the WSJ, the closest place I know of to Rice Lofts is the Randalls in Midtown. Starbucks at least has the NY Times during the week, but on the weekend the closest Starbucks that is open is Smith & Gray in Midtown.
  4. The entire window - the glass is fine, it's the wood sash that has cracked and has gaps next to the glass.
  5. I've got a few windows that need to be replaced up in my loft on the 10th floor. The windows are fairly standard size and wood construct. The one referral I got was for Gulf Coast Windows but when I talked to them on Friday, they said they wouldn't work above the 4th floor. Any suggestions on who to call?
  6. Hi I need to replace my windows and framing for my unit on 8th floor. They're made of wood and am looking to replace with something sturdier and more soundproof. Any recommendations on a good company to help me with this? Thanks, DD
  7. Does anyone know of an inspector that has worked in the downtown residential buildings? e.g. with experience of problems unique to lofts/highrises - older buildings that have been rehabbed.
  8. So I'm thinking about taking the plunge and buying downtown. I was hoping for feedback on three different loft buildings Keystone Bayou Capitol There seem to be a lot of units in all three buildings for sale, which worries me a little. I'd appreciate anyone who is living/has lived in these buildings with knowledge of quality of building and construction, culture/community of homeowners, relative value and any other pros/cons for living there. Thanks in advance
