  1. In recent years, the jogging trails that border Faulkey Gully were redone. I know the trails go under the bridge to the North side of Louetta. I wonder if the plans are to continue that project, and maybe that's what the clearing is for??? that seems like an awful lot of land for trails though...I'm curious to learn more.
  2. There is a land clearing project happening on the North side of Louetta, near the small bridge just after the Gettysburg entrance and before Malcomson/Heatherwick rd. It's an odd place to be clearing because it's divided by the bayou that runs perpendicular to Louetta, and doesnt have direct access to the street. (sorry if i'm confusing anyone on the exact location - but it's a little hard to explain.) Anyway - does anyone have any clue as to what this could be? I haven't seen any developer signs or anything of that sort. It just seems like a very odd piece of land to develop.....
  3. Fox and Hound is a great place, very pub-ish. Great place for pool, or watching the game. and the food isnt too bad either. The Westheimer location always pulls in a good crowd. I think the Willowbrook location will be a success.
  4. I did some searching of Cypress Mill Estates on Google and saw that there is an active petition to stop the proposed apartment complex from being developed. Looks like it would be another Broadstone complex...isn't that already at the Coles Crossing entrance???
  5. What is happening at the Cypress Mill Estates subdivision??? (located on Cypress Rosehill and 290). There are so many houses for sale, and they seem to be priced very low (compared to other listings in 77429). This neighborhood isn't that old, but it already seems to be going "down hill". It's a shame, the houses are nice, and it's a great location. Could it be becasuse of a weak HOA? This subdivision is a Ryland homes development, and I was actually doing some consult work for Ryland at the time this neighborhood was being built. From what I remember, Cypress Mill Estates was one of their higher end products at the time. It just seems odd to me that it hasn't held it's integrity.
  6. interesting. i was driving east on 1960 yesterday (in front of willowbrook mall) and noticed bright orange "citation" stickers on three large home builder signs. the signs are still standing, but at least they got a visible hand slap. looks like somebody is taking action out there.
  7. I noticed the Lakewood shopping center (located on the NW corner of Louetta and 249) is in the beginning stages of getting a new "look". It's long overdue. I remember years ago when the anchor tenant was a Safeway grocery store. This was back in the late 80's, early 90's - and the shopping center was probably doing pretty well then. Since then I've seen smaller occupants come and go...hair salons, an Eckards, etc. El Palenque has been there for quite some time and still seems to be the main attraction of the center. Now a breakfast/lunch only restaurant called "The Egg and I", is coming on board and is scheduled to open sometime in August. It's success will be dependent on hungry HP employees. But I'm glad to see something new here, and also glad to see that the shopping center is getting a face lift. I'm sure rennovations at the Spring Cypress center, plus the new Vintage center all had something to do with this.
  8. No seafood at these places - just a bar to hang out at. Sams Boat featured live bands on the weekend. I never went to Surf Shack but i think it was much more of a "club" atmosphere. Both places had a hard time staying out of trouble with TABC...I'm actually glad that we dont have them in the area anymore. 1960 is already dangerous enough.
  9. I heard Sams Boat closed down because of liability issues. Apparently, there had been an accident in the parking lot - a patron was walking to their car and was hit by a drunk driver, the driver had been "over served" at Sams that night. And then I also heard that there was a shooting of some sort. These could be rumors though. But I think they were having a lot of problems like this. They certainly didnt close due to business...they were always packed.
  10. i had read on here a while back that the vintage will also have a new Crate & Barrell. i spoke with my aunt today (who manages the crate & barrell in highland village) and she said it's not true. they have no plans on opening any other locations anytime soon. uggh, another let down.
  11. i agree with you, mrfootball - this is an exceptional area of town. i've also done quite a lot of exploring, and the neighborhoods you mentioned are great places to live. As I mentioned before, we are casually house hunting and looking to purchase within the year...so I'm doing my homework and keeping my eyes open. Im very curious as to what the future of these neighborhoods will be. Most of these subdivisions seem to have kept their integrity over the years - I just pray it continues to go in a positive direction. A lot of "original owners" still live in these older neighborhoods. But on our evening walks, we have noticed more and more young families which is also great to see. I wonder if there is any interest in "house flipping" in these older neighborhoods? It would be great to see these charming houses get tasteful face lifts. In my opinion it just takes a few updated houses to get the ball rolling, with time more home owners jump on board...maybe just keeping up with the Jones'...but either way it benefits the integrity/beauty of the neighborhood. Have you, or anyone else, driven through the wooded area to the south of Grant Rd.? There are older homes back there, on an acre or more it seems. I'm not sure but I think I remember signs at the entrance of Grant to the subdivision but not sure what the name was...maybe it was Grantwood???. I think they took the signs down when they widened from two lanes to four. My husband really likes it back there - but I'm wondering if those lots are prone to flooding. One other area of concern to me is The Village in the Woods apartment complex. It's one of the oldest in the area - and it's really gone down hill. Such an eyesore - the retail center accross the street from the complex has also gone down with it. I've seen many restaurants come and go, none seem to be all that successful. I wonder if there are any plans to improve/update??? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that with the expansion of Grant, the structures along this road will also get a face lift. The management companies would be fools not to - obviously Grant Rd can handle more traffic now, I hope they take advantge of it.
  12. Looks like they finished construction on Grant Rd. (between Jones and Lakewood Forest). I like the improvement from 2 lanes to 4 with the median - it seems safer now. Im just wondering if there are plans to continue with the 4 lanes further west towards Grant and N. Eldridge intersection, Malcomson, Kluge, etc. How can we find out?
  13. ProgresScape Landscaping is doing our neighbors yard - it's still in progress but looks amazing! Call Sheila at 281-875-8044. Or www.progresscape.com
  14. My husband and I are looking to move within the year. I've lived in this area my entire life - Hunter's Valley is where I grew up and my parents still live there. Anyway, we want to stay close by and I've got it narrowed down to a few neighborhoods: My choices for Cy-Fair ISD: Longwood Lakewood Glen Trails (i like Coles Crossing - but I think the taxes and HOA dues are too high) My Choices for Tomball ISD? Village Creek Park at Glen Arbor I would appreciate your feedback on these neighborhoods. We want to be in our next house for 20 years if possible! My main concern is that the neighborhood holds it's integrity. Longwood and Village Creek seem like the safe choices for that matter. But Lakewood Glen Trails and Park at Glen Arbor seem great since they are smaller, more affordable AND they have detached garages (which is a huge plus, I think it increases the curb appeal). Thanks for the feedback!
