  1. What "space" would that be, since you live in McAllen?

My space meaning Houston. My roots have been in Houston for a long time.My great-grandfather and alot of my family are buried at Glenwood Cemetary, right down the hill from Howard Hughes and his parents. More recent events include my son moving to the Rice lofts a few years back after DT had been renovated.WE could not even walk to go out to eat without being intruded upon people begging for money. My other son who still lives there has to deal with them on a daily basis. He is a very kind sensitive person who feels sorry for them but is really getting tired of them messing with his mix all the time. That is why he bought a house in Katy.

  2. IMO this what is worrying residents the most. it has become noticeably worse is such a short time.

If I lived in midtown or numerous other locations in Houston I would be major worried and angry also.I know alot of these people are not mentally sound, and maybe have fallen on hard times. However, that is not a new problem on Planet Earth. When I was a kid we called homeless people "hobos",and in general they did not create problems in our daily living. They did not create tent cities and stuff. They moved on. This new group of homeless is a whole different breed however. They are major invading our "space",that we worked hard for.

  3. Iraq? 90% of these street creatures should be throw in a padded cell.

That's what really scary about it. A awful lot of those people are major mental, and not on medication. I have been living here in McAllen for several years now.I am however a Houston native, and go up there alot.I can't believe how rapidly this problem is growing or what exactly needs to be done to correct it.

  4. Well, gosh Gary, guess I'm taking all the fun out of it. I really and truly hope that something exciting and spicy comes to town for you guys. I would agree with men enjoying something like a Playboy Club, but I think they went away. :(

There is a Playboy Club in Vegas FYI. Have you ever been to Houston? I would hardly consider Hooters a "family place" whether in CA or Texas, unless we were speaking of adult children. You are acting like this means we are behind the times because we feel Hooters inappropiate for young kids.

  5. The Globe Store in McAllen is still open. I live here so I'm sure about this.I think they only sell groceries though now. They have commercials on TV all the time about wall of food values, and that they have fresh french bread and fried chicken. They do get alot of business from Mexico I'm pretty sure.Mexican shoppers provide alot of revenue here. We're only like less than ten miles from Reynosa,Mexico, and Monterrey is not far away either.

  6. I worked at the Globe on Woodridge in 1974 for one summer. The tire store next door was Fisk, had a little boy in pajamas and holding a candle with the slogan "Time to retire.".

The only Globe left after the late 70s was one in McAllen Texas. It was closed about 5 years ago. It made so much money from people coming across the border to shop they kept it open.

I remember Sage because it was the only non grocery store open on Sundays. They would block off sections of items you couldn't buy because of the Blue Laws.

  8. LOL! I have been looking all over for this ! THis is quite possibly THE only shot of a U-tote-M in existence, and you can thank Francis Ford Copolla for it.

That's Matt Dillon running away from the store there.

The little convenience store at the corner of Skyline and Fountainview used to be a U-tote-M. Still standing today.
