  1. Weekley isn't building any more new homes in ST, but there are some coming back on the market now that are only 1 or 2 years old, like this one, which I believe are more reasonably priced.

Also: be very careful of signing a contract with Newmark or Trophy now, they announced last month that they were stopping operations in Texas sometime this year, and are actively looking for another builder to buy them out. To my mind, that's just too volatile a situation to risk doing a start up with them, or even buying an existing home, since they may not be around to do any warranty work later. To each their own on that.

I saw that about Newmark in the Enclave thread after I made my post.

We're probably two years away from doing anything regardless, so I'm guessing we'll probably buy an existing home the next go around. Just looking around and comparing and dreaming you know? :)

  2. I've got a quick question. We're far off from doing anything, but starting to think about a 2 story around 200k range.

I had a friend that had a David Weekley home in Sienna that he sold for 190 about a year and a half ago and it was a great 2 story house. Granite counters, upgraded kitchen, covered patio and plenty of other extras.

Looking in ST Enclave, we found Trophy homes that were in that range easy, but the Newmarks were way over our budget. Are the Weekley homes in ST proper closer to the Newmark homes, or are they a little more reasonable?

  3. Ate at the WhichWich Sunday night, behind the new Denny's at the front of the Academy complex.

Never eaten at one before, and it's a pretty cool concept. They weren't busy at all, but they were kinda slow getting our sandwiches done. Maybe time/training will fix that. Staff was very friendly though.

Their House Chips are pretty darn tasty. Kinda like kettle-cooked Ruffles with seasoning on them.

  4. I worked for a company in Transco/Williams for about two and a half years. Was in an office area on the 56th floor close to the northeast corner.

The elevators on 1 will take you to 51, then switch to access 52-64. The ones on 2 take 3-50. Taking 1 to 51 took around 45-50 seconds.

Being that high up was great, you wouldn't believe all the people who had binoculars or, in a few cases, telescopes. If there was a wreck on 610, you could walk down the east hallway and see everyone standing at the windows looking through their binoculars down onto the accident. :) They were also good for bikini watches at the half dozen or so hotel swimming pools that you could see from there.

When I started, 51 was still open to the west side, but by the time I left the company, Hines had installed a conference room that took up 98% of the window area facing towards the west. The east side was office space...some financial consulting firm I believe.

Unfortunately I never tried to go higher to the other floors. Once, when a buddy and I were bored, we tried to race all the way down the stairwell. Being out of shape, I was ready to collapse before we gave up around the 20th floor. Had to keep going down to another floor before we could exit the stairwell without using a cardkey. We never had to evacuate during a fire drill, only had to wait by a stairwell. I just couldn't imagine the chaos that would ensue if they tried to evacuate the building that way.

  5. I went in yesterday and it was a madhouse. I ended up parking behing the store because there weren't any available parking spots upon my initial inspection and there were so many cars queuing up to find spots in front of the store.

Once I made it in, I absolutely love this store. It's a very open concept compared to the Central Market off Westheimer and the HEB in Miss. City. Very large, wide aisles, which with the mass of humanity in that store was very accomodating. Furniture and home section are smaller versions of what you'd find in a Wal-Mart SuperCenter with pretty nice prices. Fruit section was just like the HEB in MC, fish section was huge. They do have the homemade tortillas like CM, to go along with the very nice bakery section. Entertainment section in the back right corner had off-brand HDTV's, movies, music, and video games. There was also a $1 a day DVD rental machine.

Once I made my back to the front of the store, I checked out the nicely done magazine/book section. At the checkout area, every single lane was open, and every single lane had AT LEAST 5 people in line. It's a good thing I wasn't there to purchase anything, it looked like a 15 minute wait to get in.

I'll take the family sometime this weekend, hopefully the craziness will have subsided by then!

  6. Mely's sold liquor so Sams Boat will be able to pending them receiving their liquor permit. The parts of Brazoria county not in the city limits of Pearland are the areas affected by the dry county laws. Clubs, bars and resturants in those areas require memberships to serve alchohol but Pearland changed those rules several years ago.

I still don't understand these supposed dry county laws for Brazoria County. I used to live in Angleton which is the Seat of Brazoria County and they have liqour stores and don't require memberships to serve alcohol in restaurants or bars. Same thing with Lake Jackson, also part of BC. I've always thought that Pearland was just a dry "city".

Is BC a dry county, but the towns within BC all have their own laws regarding whether or not they are dry "towns"? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Is this law somewhere online?

  7. I could be mistaken but I think the Wildcat Golf Club on Almeda is a former landfill. http://www.wildcatgolfclub.com/golf-course...to-gallery.html

You're right, it is. That's what gives the course it's "elevation changes" and "best views of downtown and Med. Ctr."

There's two courses there, Highlands and Lakes. Highlands is on the north side of the property and is definitely built on the higher part of the landfill.

They're both good courses, but a little too expensive for me to play there all the time.
