I was watching a show about Hershey Park last night, they had (at one time) a ferris wheel just like the orange one on the map. Built just like it, with two spokes of baskets. And I always thought that Astro orange one was one of a kind! Neat map, I vaguely remember Modville.

Someone that lives on State Hwy 6, around Arcola I believe, bought all the blue baskets. They have been in his front yard for years.

yep...but on rps' older map...the orbiter (future runaway rickshaws) hasn't been enclosed yet to make the building for the soon-to-be horizon theater.

anyone know if the rumors from back in the day were true?

that the orbiter was moved to oriental village because someone got hit by it after they enclosed it

I remember riding the Barrel of Fun and thinking the kid directly across from me was going to hurl any minute. All I could think about through the entire ride was how it was going to be thrown all over everyone. Luckily, he was able to contain it until the ride came to a complete stop. Whew!!

Yesterday it appeared that some of the outer stone was being salvaged. I also kindly asked to take a look inside, but the guy refused.

They probably didn't even bother to salvage the wonderful light fixtures or hardware. Idiots!

The house is at 3033 Hampton Drive Missouri City. As I understand it, it was built in 1957 and is incredible. I'd love to see pictures. Actually, I work not too far from there so maybe I'll go over and check it out, though the article makes me want to stay away.

It is incredible!! I wish I had my camera with me a few years ago when I hopped the fence and took a peek inside. No one was living there at the time, however, there were several pieces of furniture inside including a grand piano.

We're looking at a move from Pearland to Sugar Land. We've been in Pearland since 1990 in a Pulte Cambridge floor plan, which back then was a 2000 sq. foot one-story with a detached garage. At the time it was by far the house we liked the best in our price range.

Now, seventeen years later, we love our Pearland house and it's nearly paid off but my wife's career and our daughter's schooling make relocating to Sugar Land a good idea. But we'd like to live in another Cambridge. Better the devils you know, and all that, and we know the likely repair issues. It would also be more likely to fit our budget. Nowadays, Pulte uses the name "Cambridge" for a different, two-story house.

Back in 1990 there were Pulte developments all over the Houston area, I'm assuming Sugar Land, too. Can anyone point me in a direction to look?

I'm fairly sure that Lake Colony was a Pulte neighborhood. It is located off Hwy 6 between Austin Parkway and Settlers Way. I remember looking at the model homes when the neighborhood was being built, however, don't know if they had the Cambridge model.

Anyone have an idea of the designer and construction history of the house?

There used to be a small community south of Quail Valley on Highway 6 called Dewalt, which had a Post Office. I wonder if the grandson's name is connected with this community.

Yes, he is a decendent of the Dewalt family that settled Dewalt.

It has also been rumored that there is a bowling alley somewhere inside..

I have heard the same and that it was underground. I think it is just a rumor. The Ft Bend CAD only documents a main level with 6487 sq.ft.

I heard that there is a street in Quail Valley that really decorates for Christmas and the week prior to Christmas they have a Santa Claus for all the neighborhood kids to come take pictures with. I met a family that brings their kids here every year instead of the mall for Santa pics. However, I never found out where this street is. Can anyone direct me to this street if you're familiar with what I'm describing?

The street is Boca Ct. Take Glenn Lakes to Masters, left on Masters, left on Kiamesha. Boca Ct is off Kiamesha on the right. You can't miss it!! Merry Christmas!!

This is the story I heard about the house. It was owned by Dr. Hampton Robinson. He owned all of the land that would one day become Quail Valley. This was the families' country home. A few years after the house was built, Mrs. Robinson was found dying of a gunshot wound, the gun by her side. Dr. Robinson closed the house and never returned and that it has sat empty all these years. After his passing, the estate was tied up in heirs. I believe the current owner, Adam Dewalt Adams is Dr. Robinson's grandson.

A few years ago, my friend and I hopped the fence and had a peek in the windows. It was amazing! Beautiful terazzo flooring! The bathrooms had glass walls, with a brick outer wall for privacy. The living room had sliding glass walls that opened to the pool. It must have been quite a place in the sixties. It was really sad to see that it had been so neglected. I hope Mr. Adams gets his act together and gets the home up to code before the city destroys it.

I have heard so many stories about the Robinson House in Quail Valley. There are some really wild stories out there about this house. I don't know what is true and what is fiction. One thing I do know, it is a beautiful Mid-Century Mod. Does anyone out there have a Robinson House story?

Your not off subject. That was great commentary. In fact Forest Lawn or most cemetaries should be responsibe for removing any wild growth or weeds. The Forest Park on the Near East End usually cleans quite well. Your right though it would seem someone, somewhere even a distant relative should check on the marker on occassion. Maybe the rich see it differently?

As eerie as this story unfolded, now it makes me wonder if she is actually in that spot? More mysteries or rumours to start....

I wouldn't have put it past her father to have her moved, especially after the docter was murdered. He had the power and money to have her moved in the dead of night. I read somewhere he was mad as hell that her head stone read "Joan Hill".

The home on Kirby where Dr. Hill was murdered was on the market about a year and a half ago. The music room still looked just as it was described in the book, Blood and Money. There was also a photo of the entry hall, where he was murdered. I wish I had thought to save the photos. Joan Hill is buried at Forest Park Westheimer. I drive past her grave when I visit my in-laws. Her grave has a bush growing in the middle of it which almost covers her headstone. It is sad to think that someone that was such a pillar in our community has no one to care for her grave. I know I'm off the subject but.....

I grew up close to Northline Mall and my aunt worked at the Joskes. I remember going to the restaurant, but I don't remember specific details about the decor. Were they all like the Bamboo Room at Gulfgate? What I do remember is that it was magical!
