  1. Late to this topic, but just realized my birth certificate shows home address as Rossmoyne.  I knew my parents lived in a garage apartment at the time, and my mom used to say we were driving where the apartment was, anytime I drove on 59.  Never knew the spelling until I noticed it today.  June 1957, btw.  Name change must have been later.

  2. This is a nice place. The design is contemporary but with some natural look, like table tops with sand and shells under glass. Very nice atmosphere and a little quieter than most.

The food was good, service very good. Fish on the special was a smallish serving, but steak was good, as well as the pasta weesie - shrimp dish. Good sides, really nice size salads with dinners.

I could tell from the street that the inside looked nice, and we were glad we stopped in. Don't usually go that far - Fry and Clay, across from Valero. I asked and they said they'd been there 2 years, it looked brand new.

Thought someone would like to know... : )

  3. Picked up a menu and it's pretty pricey, and I don't remember anything for $6. Also, dress is not that casual - no sandals, tennis shoes, t shirts, shorts - long list.

But....the menu looks really good, linen tablecloths, etc. We will go, sometime when we are dressed nicer than usual. Should be a nice quiet experience.

  4. No where near enough for an attic. Code is R-30 or better. Lay R-19 over R-25 batts (or vice-versa), if you go down that path. You need 14 to 16", blow-in (easiest). This, and a strong, efficient central air system, ample attic ventilation, is going to give you the biggest return in terms of comfort in your home.

You probably won't have insulation in the walls, will have single-pane aluminum frame windows, etc. You are just going to have to live with that. Also, the spray-on radiant barrier... The Ch. 11 report never actually gave any information as to whether it worked or not. They interviewed that guy... but they didn't take before and after temp readings to inform us "Hey, it does work." Or "It's a rip off." Kept waiting for the punch line, but no.

Code is R-19 unless there is more than 15% glazing (window surface), which I doubt unless there is a wall of glass somewhere on this little house. Over 15% moves to R30.

  5. You may not want to put too much money into the attic until you check to see if the walls even have insulation. If the house started with window units and then had central air installed later, chances are there is nothing inside the walls. Like was said before, they were made to breathe.

After you're sure you have some wall insulation, you could lay some R19 batts in the attic, and if done well, that should be sufficient. Considerably cheaper than some of the high tech wonders out there.

  6. We finally tried it about two weeks ago. I thought the food was great. We are late eaters so when we showed up around 7:30 (I think it was a Sunday), we only waited 15 minutes.

The steaks might be a tiny bit over priced, but overall not too bad and our waiter was good. I think we will go back, but we don't have time to go out but once every week or two, so it might be a while.

  7. The gas tanks were on the Northwest corner of 290 and Mueschke. I wrote them a while back and they said they were trying to make it happen, whatever that may mean. I am wishful thinking that the tanks mean it is going to happen.

I didn't know about one in Waller - where is it? That doesn't make too much sense only 20 miles away; so maybe I'm wrong and it's just a regular gas station. That would be a pity.

  8. Driving home yesterday I thought I saw a sign that said "Gucci - only in San Marcos". It was on the left on 290 westbound near the Cy-Falls Water Tower. I meant to ck again today, but forgot.

Why would a store in the San Marcos outlet - owned by the same people as the Cypress one - do that?

By the way I saw the wannabe's on opening day. I couldn't believe how many young people like that I saw. I wouldn't think an outlet mall would be exactly the cool thing to do. I was actually smiling at them, they were trying so hard to look bad!

  9. We have coyotes off Mueschke Rd close to 290. Last time I heard them was probably about 4 weeks ago. It is getting less often though. They have had several of our barn cats for dinner over the years.

  10. So Sad....... THe lady at the info desk of Central Market told me Saturday that both of these stores are going to be regular HEB's - not hybrid, not Central Mkt. She said they are the new 'expanded' stores - whatever that means. What a dissapointment............

  11. So I go to HD yesterday to by some crackle paint for an old exterior pot. I find the color that's closest to what I need, but the can doesn't state whether it's oil or water based. I walk up to the help counter, ask the guy if this product is oil based, he says yes, and I go home to start my little project. Well after creating my little masterpiece, potting my new prized Norfolk pine, and watering, I find the paint running down the side of the pot.

No real moral to the story other than I was pissed, and as Red said above, I'll do my research online before going back in.

The trick on that is to look at the brush clean-up instructions. If it says clean with warm soapy water ....or mineral spirits ?? That should tell you what kind of base it is.

  12. I have heard that the areas around White Oak, Greens, Spring Creek, and Cypress Creeks are changing. Does anyone have a link to the new maps coming out? I am assuming there will be some homes that will need to get flood insurance now as a result, and some that could drop it if they wanted to.

  13. FYI to all: Just double checked with someone who knows this stuff. Red light cameras are different from VIVDS (traffic flow) cameras are different from emergency vehicle detector cameras (not sure about the nickname on these).

So potentially - each major intersection could end up with 12 cameras if you had all three kinds pointed in four different directions! Ridiculous! You would think that before installing all this stuff someone could come up with one camera that does all three jobs. (plus the VIVDS are not working all that well apparently)

Just thought you'd like to know where your tax dollars are going.
