Is 6700 Main the same site they planned to build a 40-story residential tower back in 07/08?

Looks like that was 6600 Main, or at the corner of Main and Dryden

Not sure if this link is going to work, but apparently that plot of land (still a parking lot) is owned by St. Luke's:

Stopped by the site this afternoon and talked to the crew chief. He said that they were excavating the site to 17 feet below ground.

He also said something that was very interesting. He said that once this project is finished there is talk  that the hotel just north of this site

will be demolished and a sixty six story tower will take its place. Nice rumor. Images of the excavation will come when Brijonmang downloads for me.

Hmm....apparently Medistar owns the Best Western (6700 Main) as well

  3. Saw this article in the chron this morning -

    http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/columnists/sarnoff/article/As-far-as-land-goes-large-tract-near-Medical-7252410.php

Does anyone know where to find the marketing materials?  I checked out the Cushman & Wakefield website but couldn't locate it.

It's not quite as close to TMC3 as Nancy seems to think (I think she's looking at the wrong parking lot), but still relatively close

I walked by this site the other day, and walked around back along the bayou and then back up to Fannin St. I'm curious as to how the UT Health building sets so close to the bayou bank, while this building and the existing Coleman campus property line is much further back.

That appears to be the UT Health parking garage, and it really does intrude - the upper trail just squeezes by it, and there are obvious issues with erosion.  I'm guessing they will have to use a wall along that section with Project Brays as I'm not sure how else you could widen the channel

    Construction begins today!

Is there an article out on it?  I know that was the schedule they announced last month

I drove by this morning and looked more or less the same - closed off, ongoing utility work, ceremonial pile of dirt in the middle of the lot.  I will check it out on the way home, though

Still wondering when they will announce the hotel brand (and if it's still Intercontinental)

I drove in the Medcenter today and noticed a tent in the parking lot that is closed.  Maybe they will be doing a groundbreaking ceremony in the coming days.

I think you're right, I saw the tent as well and it looked the part.  Now there's just a big pile of dirt there, so they must have done it over the weekend

Website is up for the apartments but not much to see yet:

  7. If that is the case, then the rendering is missing about 50 homeless people with garbage all over the place.  Perhaps they could draw some squiggly lines coming up from the ground to indicate the stench of urine as well.

Seriously, it would great if this got built, but I can't imagine going to a doctor's office on that corner.

No joke.  It's by far the biggest eyesore on my daily drive in - it's quite a contrast to go from Museum District to that area to cranes and high dollar apartments popping up along Travis.  For the Super Bowl, any folks driving in from the med center/NRG area along Main or any folks taking the rail up will get an eye full

I don't know what the story is with Peggy Point Plaza but I just noticed (a year late) it has been fenced off (previous thread here http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/31851-public-parks-fences-and-the-homeless/).  I think the church or some other group feeds people around there as I occasionally see a ton of homeless folks behind the fence in line.  I'm kind of going OT here but the homeless probably tend to congregate there as well since it's convenient to the rail - I don't take the rail during the week but I know on the weekends I often see a number of homeless people in there

  8. The article does say West University "area".  Looks like it will be in 77030 zip, not 77005

I noticed a friend check in on facebook at "Rice Village at West University" recently - it's not the main check in ("Rice Village District" is) but apparently a lot of people associate Rice Village with West U

Even a Houston visitor's website seems to infer that Rice University itself is in the West University "area"

  9. This must be coming to Shakespeare between Kirby and Morningside as Shakespeare becomes Fenwood on the other side of Kirby and dies out after a couple of blocks.  I'm not familiar with West U deed restrictions and zoning but I can't believe something like this would be allowed on Fenwood

There are several decent size plots of land (like 2515 Shakespeare) that might fit the bill here, but not sure.  That's the closest plot size I can find but it's currently the home of some older condos
