  1. Oh? You mean like the apartments on the N.W. Corner of the SouthWest freeway and 610?

Personally, I'd love the view. I'd sit there, drink beer and laugh at all the poor bastages suffering in traffic.

I live on the 3rd floor of the Broadstone W18 (W 18th@610), and yes watching traffic pass by at 5:30PM is very entertaining, especially when there's a north loop accident backing up traffic onto the west loop.

The freeway noise isn't bad at all. My only complaint is when the Crapplebee's patrons are hanging out in the parking lot after 11:00PM.

  2. We would all get to work faster and there would be less traffic jams if everyone would just speed up. When the light changes hit the gas and go! If you are driving fast you should be paying more attention to what is going on. You think driving the too slow speed limit and gabbing on the phone or the person next to you is safer? Time is money... GO FAST!

I don't think it's speed that slows people down, it's the changing of lanes. I've noticed that when I get out of the Galleria traffic in the mornings into Bellaire there are still times when I have to slow down because everyone is weaving in and out of lanes jockeying for position at higher speeds. People should drive reasonably fast and not change lanes so much. It would cut down on accidents and the number of times that everyone has too slam on their brakes and slow down everyone behind them.

As for paying more attention at higher speeds, yeah right. Between applying cream cheese to a bagel, stirring sugar in some coffee, reading a book/the paper, and applying makeup/fixing hair all while talking on the phone/texting/emailing, I don't think people have much attention left to spend on the road.

  3. I used to live out west and used Westpark and the beltway all the time. I moved in the loop back in June and have not used a single tollway once since then. I kept my eztag though because on the off chance that I need to use a tollway I don't want to have to look for quarters. It's not really costing me anything except for the $30.00 or so I have left on my account.

  4. To correct a previous poster - 59 construction is NOT behind schedule.

They plan to open two new lanes in each direction in March; that will alleviate a lot of the traffic until completion of the entire project in the 3rd quarter of 2008. Ahead of projected finish of 4th quarter 2008.

That is true that the new lanes will open soon, but this article is what I was basing my statement on. If it's wrong, that's great. I drive over there frequently.

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/for...ws/5343758.html

"The $195 million renovation of U.S. 59 through Fort Bend County was supposed to be completed at the end of 2008 but now it appears the rebuilt freeway and bridges won't open until about May 2009."

  5. My parents have lived in River Park for years. They both work on the west side of town so it's fairly convenient. As stated before it's in Lamar CISD not Fort Bend ISD. Also construction on 59 is behind schedule so you'll have to deal with that for another year+. The TDCJ units are north of 90A, so it's not really a factor. I went to school at Stephen F. Austin which was right across the street from the prison fields and nothing ever happened back then. As for crime within the neighborhood, my family hasn't ever told me of any incidents so I'm guessing it's fairly safe.

  6. My parents have lived in River Park since either late 2000/early 2001 (I can't remember exactly when they moved) and have not flooded...yet. We were all in Las Vegas during Allison for my wedding so I couldn't tell you how bad it got, but it seems like Sugar Land didn't get much compared to other parts of town.

  7. A friend of mine used to live there. She left since they were raising her rent about $100. They are a bit pricey for what you get. My wife and I were thinking about moving there since she goes to UH and I work at Kirby@610. We weren't moving until the end of June and they would only hold a unit for 30 days. Within the 2 weeks we looked and the beginning of June, the unit we wanted was gone. No big deal though, we found a nicer place for the same price elsewhere.

  8. Chartres: I used to say shar-tres when I was younger until one day in school, probably in art history if I remember right, when I learned about the City of Chartres (pronounced shart) in France. So now I say shart...

  9. They ruin the look of the 4 bridges by putting big ugly signs on them, that no one reads. As if those signs are going to do anything.

Those orange signs will come down once the project is complete.

How much did we waste on this project? I don't see traffic being alleviated anytime soon.
It's not done yet. There is still one more right lane and the HOV left.
Also the Milam entrance to the spur is a death trap! Totally blind merging into the spur, its so ridiculous that they post 35 mile per hour limits on the spur! How idiotic is that? Its and extention of the freeway. Shows how poorly designed the whole project was.

Yes that entrance is a death trap, but the speed limit is 35 mph. I drove it at lunch and set my cruise control for 38 mph. It's hilarious that people will honk at you, roll down their windows and scream, and even cut in front of you and slam on their brakes just because you made them slow down 10 mph. Sure it's an extension of the freeway, but speed limits are there for a reason. Live with it people.

As for the design, the whole purpose was to depress the freeway below grade at Montrose, not to 'solve' the traffic problem over there.

  10. They have a mandate to pass kids on stupid government tests so all they do is teach to a specific tests.

Speaking of teaching for specific tests, check out HISDs new bonus plan for teachers...

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metrop...an/3584367.html

"...the program will pay annual bonuses topping $3,000 in some cases to teachers whose students show strong gains on state and national standardized tests..."

  11. I guess Sam's gas will work in a pinch, but you really shouldn't use that stuff, if you like your car. I know, I know, Murphy gas is always the least expensive. Let me tell you why it is so inexpensive. They don't put any kind of detergents in the fuel to make it run cleaner in your engine, and you get really nice clogged up fuel injectors and what looks like someone spit out a whole can of Copenhagen on your valves, in a 36,000 mile engine. :(

i'm not too worried about it...company car

but i'll keep that in mind for my other car

  12. Why are all these people worried about gas who are in Houston and staying in Houston?

The storm will clear Sunday and eventually gas stations will be replenished. You people need to calm down.

Actually there is plenty of gas in my garage. I'm selling it for 10 bucks a gallon. ;)

I'm not worried about it. I just wanted to see if I could fill up before the storm. But I'm not going anywhere anyways since everything is closed.

  13. I tried to get out yesterday and ended up blowing 10 hours to reach Brookshire.

So I ended up giving up and returning home, which only took like 45 minutes.

Now my car is on E and I was wondering if there is any gas anywhere.

If anyone can provide any info of where I can find gas it would be much appreciated.

West side especially since I live near Westchase.

    Thanks.

  14. I live near Briar Forest@Wilcrest and work near Kirby@610. Barring any major accidents, I-10 is about the same or faster than the tollway, and its free.

I just moved to the south area of Cinco Ranch to the west of 99 off Fry Road and use the WP Tollroad every day to travel to the Post Oak near San Felipe in the Galleria area.

It is 25 miles from my driveway to my office parking garage. I was really amazed the 1st time measured this, but the WPTR is a very direct shot from South cinco Ranch to the Galleria. I left at 7:20 this morning and pulled into my parking spot at 7:56 for a 36 minute commute. Whoever compared this to communting down the Katy Freeway is a little off.

    different scenarios... ;)

  15. I haven't been using the tollway much anymore to commute because the time savings has been going down.

I live near Briar Forest@Wilcrest and work near Kirby@610. Barring any major accidents, I-10 is about the same or faster than the tollway, and its free.

I have used it a few times at rush hour westbound to visit my parents in Sugar Land and the traffic really starts moving once you pass Highway 6.
