  1. nice pics, where are the first few, ie not the ones at Hermann / Miller Outdoor Theater ??

Thank you Porchman; have been there just more than once, but in darkness, at night, avec cocktails :)

Must investigate the outsides more, looks gorgeous.

  2. Awesome, this should be an interesting evening- I think we need to introduce ourselves and be known of that night as our Screen Log in name, right? Real names might be confusing...

Following on from that, I wish my user name started with "The"; that was smart thinking, perfect for introductions. Hello, I am The "X".......

Although I've not really been in Houston too long, I'm guessing an event like this might have happened previous and some folks might know each other a little anyway?

In any case, I look forward to meeting folks and putting some (Login) names to faces :)

    Cheers

  3. Geoff, "attacking him for his opinion, and misunderstanding your question" is "wrong on so many levels" ??? Do I even respond to that? I do.not.care.what.anyone.thinks.it.should.be. Hess will not be owning the building, either, so that comment of yours made no sense.

"I'm sure if they were they would certainly remind you not to call your fellow..." - Thank you for projecting an opinion for a moderator, but, again, I could not care less what you think. In case you need it explained to you, I did not call a "fellow Haif'er" an ingnoramus due to his opinion ; I called him an ignoramus because he is not answering the question and is repeating the hackneyed waste of time of throwing out an opinion of the name of a project when that had nothing to do with my question. Stop wasting people's time by giving an extraneous answer that does not answer the question. That's the moral of this story.

Whatever pal. You need to step off. I don't have to answer your question. I posted some thoughts on this thread on the naming of this building and if I want to do that I will, at any time.

Your over the top response to my harmless musings was rude and offensive, but lets just leave it at that as I've better things to do than go back and forth on this.

    Good evening.

  4. May have missed a previous conversation about this, but why has this thread not been renamed "Hess Tower" ?

    Cause that name blows?

Why not just call it Hess Discovery Tower?

1000 times better, and actually a fantastic branding opportunity for Hess IMO.

To associate Hess with theme of "discovery" etc...and to the park itself....good PR / sponsor park events etc...

  5. In the chron last week there was an article that there was going to be a vote in City Hall or wherever on whether to approve this hotel to get the tax incentives that presumably it needed to get started.

Does anyone know what happened with this Council meeting / vote on the proposed hotel last week?

Hopefully there was a positive outcome and this thing will break ground soon?

  6. I noticed they built a box insider where the curved roof is going to go. I guess its most likely air conditioning and stuff like that. I think it's going so slowly because they have to built that sort of stuff before they finish off the top.

It's also supposed to have a spire/antenna of some sort right? That should be pretty cool.

I can see this building from my apartment, although it's partially blocked by some trees, so it's pretty fun watching it go up.

Yes, I think you are right on all counts Jax.

Thanks so much for the awesome pics of this building, they look great. I too live quite nearby and watch the roof every day - maybe that's partly why I think its going slowly!

  7. Probably funny the first time this happend (in the 60's!)

But when you consider that the city has to shut the fountain down, clean it out, and take a city employee at least a full day to make it happen, are you really proud of yoruself for doing this?

How, exactly, is this different than throwing garbage out the window that someone else has to clean up.

    Grow up, for goodness sake.

agreed, pathetic behaviour, worse than grafitti. The fountain is awesome and anyone who messes it up should be arrested.

  8. I've seen it myself, defo not the photo Jax :)

I went to see this today again and actually I think the bridge is not finished yet, there are brackets along the top of the railing on both sides that look like something is still to be added...and the bridge is closed off again...

The rest of the work around the bridge is great.....new station, buildings, trees, landscaping around lake etc are all super...!

  9. What, I thought this was just a "test" bridge when i first saw it.

Sorry, i truly love Hermann Park and the Conservation Society and all they do, but to me this looks not so great for a million bucks?

If this is the much vaunted "Tiffany Bridge" then sorry its a SIGH from me... I thought it would be much more pretty, ornate and grand looking, not some steel thing that looks like something like the Core of Engineers would fling up in a logistical flooding emergency. Where is the "arched" design in the bridge as above in first post???

Or maybe I'm just not looking at it right????! I hate to criticise when its better than nothing, I just think the Park deserves more.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong and this thing looks awesome.

    Confused :(

  10. The bridge will make for more efficient traffic flow, but I don't see any other compelling evidence that traffic will flow better as a result of the realignment.

how will the bridge make for more efficient traffic flow in the area?

The bridge is not there now, thus no traffic at all.

The way I see it the bridge, and the traffic it will bring, will very much add to the congestion.

Driving down N MacGregor when this is done, I actually think there will need to be a traffic light now due to the bridge bringing traffic at a right angle to the alignment........

  11. hhm, yes, thanks for that, great pics....

I drove by it today as well, and while I'm sorry that the roads are going to be right next to each other, on closer inspection maybe it won't be too bad... ( I still liked it the way it was mind you)

As you say, I'm real interested in what they put in the existing North McGregor Rd...if they add something there real nice it might be worth losing with the canopy effect etc on N McGregor

Also, wonder how all this will affect traffic flow in and around the new bridge, which from what I can gather is why this North McGregor re-alignment is all happening

Also wonder if North M is still going to be 3 lanes?

    S M is only 2.

Surely they would not get rid of a lane, esp as it is access to Ben Taub. Still needs to be 3 lanes IMO, which is what it is now. Not quite sure if there is room for 3 lanes in the new alignment...looks like there might be, but tough to tell....
